I think class would be like a subjob from now on. For example, being a gladiator; it's often handy to have cure spells from con and thm to keep yourself alive, but when you switch to paladin, you will lose all those cure spells from thm and con, and you can now start learning cure spells exclusive to paladin, while still keeping all your gladiator skills. You'd get the benefit of a much higher defense as paladin, which is better for party situations, and those that stick with being a gladiator can become more of a balanced damage dealer type with hybrid skills from all other classes.

I think they are gonna do away with physical level points in exchange for merit point like system from ffxi. Like you can put more points on heavy stab to make it stronger and such.

to make sense it should be Pug unlock Monk so yes sorry Cairdeas i don't know why you want this it make no sense. Even in the list it say you can't use Spell from some type of class so that mean you can't unlock Pug while using conj because that mean you lock all your spell and you have to level up Pug any ways to unlock it to use it lol that seem to much work.

i still don't get what you want that seem like a mess up idea.

Thinking about it more I think they only meant you need a class to a certain rank to unlock it, after that you could still use any class though some would be a lot better than others. Also they said new unlocks for the jobs would be done by quests. So if you unlock DRK you would then do further quests to unlock further abilities for that job.

How I see it working for example is:

Take GLA to R30 unlock PLD and maybe DRK through two quests. So say I pick DRK, I do my quest and setting DRK as my job gives me traits that enhance my attack, lower my defence and increase my INT for dark magic. I also get Bloodweapon as an ability. Later on I do another DRK quest and then get Souleater as a new ability.

Now I have my DRK job but am I still tied to using a sword. I would hope not, say I switch class to MRD (great axe) I would still possess my DRK skills and traits but also have use of skills from MRD and then be able to cross class certain other skills.

Problems come however when new weapon classes are introduced. Does that mean every new weapon must have 2 jobs attached to it?

Maybe when I unlock a job it comes along with it access to it's own special weapon. Like DRK comes with access to Scythes if I unlock PLD it comes with special shields and so on. Each Job comes with it's own new weapon but it doesn't stop you from using a different weapon if you wish.

I don't know there are a lot of ideas floating around, I just hope everything turns out great and it is fun to play.

It clearly states these jobs will not be Advanced jobs/classes but rather "play style" for the current classes. For example, and this is simply how i understood the system when i read the official post; for conj, you can unlock the playstyle blm and whm, i do not believe these play styles will have ranks but rather give you access to certain skills that only the style offers, so conj with whm style will gain healing skills and lose nuking skills and vice versa. Another would be GLD can become Paladin or Warrior(just using these names as examples, no one knows what the styles will be really called.) When Paladin you gain new and stronger defense and hate holding skills, and as warrior u lose them in return for more damage based skills and these jobs will allow you to change your play style for that class depending on the role required for whatever your doing. Now this does not mean all classes will have 2 or more options of style right away, most might only have one, but they might add more styles later on. I think this method allows them to add classic ff names, improve class uniqueness, fix current issues with class all in one go and i believe styles will be locked to classes. If it is not locked, then what would the difference between LNC/DRK and MRD/DRK be other then the weapon and this would bring us back to the issue with the current system, which is classes are not unique.

P.S. this is simply how i understood the system, i don't intend to or mean to put anyone else idea down.

That really is a question i'd like answered as well, but we really can only speculate on how this would work.

In my opinion, you should be able to use a Great Sword as a Paladin but the skills you'd have with the GreatSword would lock out some Sword+Shield Skills that you'd need to perform your role efficiently.

You don't understand Zenaku thats exactly what I DONT want. I dont want to be forced to play paladin with only sword. That line I put in quotes

"Gladiator Unlocks the quest for Paladin and once you unlock it you can only equip the Paladin Job as a Gladiator."
Was an explaination of what I meant by Jobs being locked and that I DO NOT want them to be locked.

I have to thank Square-Enix for the amazing job they have done recreating Final Fantasy XIV from Scratch. Especially the inclusion of Missing Genders which we petitioned for in good faith. This was proof to us players that the Developers are truly Sympathetic to our requests and that being honest and vocal can pay off with the amazing characters we have who are Female Roegadyn, Male Miqote, and Female Highlanders. Thank You SE, Thank You Community Team, Thank You Yoshi-P.

I agree with the OP, I would be a bit disappointed if jobs were tied to only one weapon type to use. Hopefully what Alexia said will be what happens, but atm I am unsure.

I disagree with OP, I like the idea of how jobs will further enhance the roles and abilities of current classes. Let the jobs be class specific, this will most definitely promote party tactics as well. Weapon aesthetics? Please thats such a minor issue compared to having specified party roles when dealing with *cough* actually difficult content.

as of right now each weap brings a different combat style, most likely even moreso regarding changes planned to current classes
