SMNs how do you deal with/prevent Garuda-Egi knockback?

I want to kill my Garuda minion. Absolutely the best, but the worst at the same time. I cannot tell you how many times my pet has knocked back mobs at the most inopportune moments. Several of my FC-mates complain that he interrupts spell casts and makes their DPS more stressful, and a few tanks have complained as well.

I try my hardest to put her (him?) in places that are at max range, but mobs get moved and whatnot. I've basically turned to just having Ifrit out for trash and Garuda for bosses.

Has anyone found a good strategy to stop this from happening? Wish SE would allow you to disable pet abilities. =\

I was told at least with Carbuncle that if you use Obey while targeting the enemy, it doesn't use the knock-back. Not sure how true that is.

Put him to Obey, and don't use any of his skill but auto attack. As soon as you manually use any of his skill, say Contagion, put him on Obey again. Though, I would much prefer if SE can change the fact that Obey is permanent, not one-time use.

Ugh that's relatively annoying. Is it possible to bind their abilities to a hotkey? Or drag them to your bar?

I asked the same question to one of the SMN whose garuda kept doing a knockback and ended up agroing a bunch more trash mobs…

Apparently garuda will only do the knockback IF the enemy is close to the SMN. Sure enough he stood farther away and Garuda quit doing that. Not sure how definite this is since I’ve only observed it through one instance.

No it is not. As the way I see it, if the mobs are close to the SMN, Garuda will priority on KB than anything else. If not, it just go through its rotation like normal from left to right.

You have to use Obey and just get a keybind for Contagion and her AoE move. AoE move isn't really needed but if you have enough keybinds why not. Everytime you re summon her you have to use Obey at least once to get her to change her "stance" so she only "auto attacks". I have Sic/Obey on my bar and just switch them depending on what pet or the situation.

All pets should be on obey no matter what. This goes for healing pets as well. It's always more efficient to manually control your pet-- especially with the recent update that allows you to use pet abilities while casting spells.

A good summoner has no reason to put a pet on Sic ever again after the recent update.

Correct, Garuda should always be on Obey so that she doesnt use Contagion on her own. Also, unlike others have stated. Obey IS a permanent state. It only changes if you use Sic or pet dies. Her other moves arent really a DPS increase either, her AOE move is ok but not really needed.
