I think you're partly correct, except that we will have control over the abilities we equip. Rather than rank up to gain abilities, we undertake quests.

While playing as a particular job will render you unable to equip certain actions of other classes, you will be compensated with access to exclusive actions, which can be acquired through quests.

So the way I would speculate the class and job roles working in FFXIV would be (and correct me if I’m wrong ^^):

If I played Marauder as my main class, I would get to pick specialization jobs such as (using other RPG type specializations as an example- apologies in advance but I’ve been playing Dragon Age quite a lot recently ><) Champion or Reaver.

Champion could use special job abilities to use in party such as Rally (increasing party members’ attack and defence) or Warcry, which lowers the defence and attack of the mob by intimidating them.

Reaver would obviously use abilities like Blood Frenzy- increasing damage as you take more damage yourself (the lower your HP is). Or job specialization abilities to sustain and further enhance abilities such as taunt, or enmity generation in general.

Both examples of job abilities in my opinion should not be able to be equipped on any other class other than the Marauder, and both could also increase certain base stats depending on which you pick as your specialization at the time.

Of course I’m not suggesting that these are the job specializations that a class should have, it was just the easiest way for me to put in words an example.

So, rather than Conjurer unlocking “Black Mage” it would gain specialization jobs to further enhance either nuking or healing/support etc depending on what is required in party at the time. Kind of like subjobs I suppose.

Whether you then have to rank up in a way on these job specializations to gain points and unlock abilities etc I don’t know.

Along with the other adjustments and tweaks announced to be on the way I’m pretty excited to see how this is going to be implemented.

This is sounding more and more like a Job Title System. Not that it's a bad thing, but a lot of us were not expecting that. Some of us were, though, as it would be the easiest and fastest way to implement traditional Final Fantasy jobs.

If I'm understanding it all right, I like what I see on paper. Still keeping some of the original armoury system for soloers & small group activities(but with hopefully less annoying attribute allocation?? = D) & using the advanced jobs with specific roles for more serious party play. Sounds good. I'll want the old mix n match classes when I'm soloing tough NMs & such.

I read the letter and it makes me excited for the game, but what they're basically doing is splitting up party and solo content, wouldn't that render classes useless for many situations ASIDE from strict party content? for example, I'd assume they will adjust leve mobs and behest mobs, making them more strategy filled - that would mean that players using classes would need to switch to a job to partake in the events...[...]
Nah, that means, I will for the funs sake just Zerg-Rush every mob and you will bitch about it till SE do actually something about it ^^

j/k about me zerging, but i see some people doing so. I for sure know i won't be for most of time trash my hands in some kind of a tactics... i hate tactical jrpg's, i love turn based and action jrpg on the other hand ^^ so I'll just slice with my axe if someone like it or not.

Anyway one thing, it's not that I'm unhappy or something I'm just a little at lose and want to see how it will play in action.

BTw. Since they are implementing Final Fantasy jobs, i want Soldier D:<

I just read it myself, I like the fact they plan to let us lone wolves continue to solo, and that they are designing a system that'll let us retain a preset action bar, but I still have one major concern:

Auto Attack. I was hoping that it would be elaborated on how it would affect Archer, Musketeer, or any other planned ranged combat class. Would ranged attacks remain manual, be fully automatic, or have the option to toggle? Would it be a system like in FFXI, where you would have an AA for melee, with a manual ranged attack? As far as I could tell, this issue has not been addressed, and since it can make or break the class, it should have been.

Where are you guys getting that rank 30 is when the jobs unlock? Just a guess or did I miss something? If thats the case I already have everything at 20+ and need to get cracking on hitting 30.

They really said a whole lot of nothing about auto attack, other than, it will be there and it will take multiple patches.

People are just assuming things, they're thinking 30 because that's how it was set up in FFXI.
