Just seems unnecessary to me, and then everyone ends up "needing" to have the same equipment and use the same macro setup as every other job if they want to participate in whatever high end combat activities.
Indeed. Mid-battle gear change as a needed strategy for "high level" play is a terrible design mechanic. Being able to change clothes in the middle of a fight is not good strategy.

The same goal of emphasizing situational strategy to enhance certain abilities should come from the art of battle itself.

In my opinion it relegated all forms of weapons to the same speed, if say perhaps Axes did more damage but cost more stamina I would be more obliged to say it allowed some more tactile feedback.

But it didn't all it was, was auto attack with manual input. Obviously just my opinion the system could have become something different but I just don't see it how it was layed out for us.

So yeah, it's time to reimplement the FFXI Delay/DPS system!

For those that don't know, it's basically different weapon types actually behaved differently in battle.

I agree that armour switching in combat should be a no-go. As much as I loved all of my Thiefs gear sets I don't think I should be able to switch them mid-combat, and highly situational gear sets tailored to do like one thing good "Hecatomb sup" shouldn't be allowed to just "Switch" in.

I still love the idea of having a evasion and accuracy set but I'd rather equip them based on the monster I'm fighting and not "Is the monster going to WS me soon?"

No...if you want to play mix and match with abilities, stick with the classes. They are redoing class skills along side the implementation of jobs, so you'll still be just fine. Not sure how you got they would be taking that away, since the blueprint already stated the difference between classes and jobs.

So far from what we know:

Classes = Freelancer or jack of all trades where you can mix what you want.
Jobs = somewhat closer to standard FF characters circa IX and pre VII, specific specializations.

Or at least thats how it seems.

Seems to me like it'll just be equipping a specialization to your weapon class on-the-fly, increasing the effectiveness of skills relative to that job's role (such as WHM gaining effectiveness with healing/buffing magic) in turn for losing skills that aren't part of its role (in this case either losing skills from DoW/damaing THM/CON magic or having it super gimped) and also gaining a few new abilities to enhance and expand (which also makes up for the loss in effectiveness/loss of many ability options).

EX: Lancer unlocks job: Dragoon. Dragoon gives the Lancer the ability to wield spears with greater effectiveness and gives you the Jump ability, which vaults you into the air and gives invulnerability, then damages. Life Surge changes into Lancet and has increased effectiveness (somehow...increased draining or decreased cooldown).

That's how it seems to me.

    From Yoshi mouth himself.
A number of plans made at the beginning of the year will soon be ripe for release. Among these are the shiny new job system (a proper system, mind you, not just renamed classes),...
    From his mouth again:
Revisions to the Armoury System and battle algorithms will be spearheading(coming ahead of..) the changes, along with the introduction of the job system.(two separate systems) We’re pressing forward with changes catering to both solo and party play, so you can rest assured whatever your playing style.

    p.s.
I love the clues Yoshi likes to leave behind
Now, there’s one new item on the list that fans of the FINAL FANTASY series wouldn’t have missed: the long-awaited battle with the primal Ifrit is on the way! But that’s hardly where it ends. We’ll be summoning forth more and more primals in the future, so keep an eye out for further announcements.
