    Map Quests

    Hello community!

I know the debate for the whole copy-pasta’ed terrain discussion has pretty much been played out. Many feel that the world is lacking due to this reason, and I do agree. However, I also believe that there is no real mystery to the zones because everyone had a map of every area from the beginning.

Obviously they cannot take back what has been in place since the start, but I do hope that some of the new dungeons and zones don’t just hand us the maps (it won’t really make sense story-wise as well). I’d like to see some fun quests to obtain the maps, perhaps this will add a little mystery and adventure to the zones.

Also it might be interesting to start off with just a small section of the maps and you have to do missions to collect the rest to complete it. I dunno, I just like figuring things out for myself instead of seeing it all right there with one click of a button :c

What do ya'll think? A polite discussion would be nice ^^ *prepares for the flames*

I think the map should be on the principle of the old "fog of war" mechanic. You need to have actually visited the area to see it on the map. And even with copy-pasta'd terrain, I'm sure they could through in a few random pieces of foliage if they really wanted to to try to break the monotony of the landscape

Map quests were great in XI except for a few of them. Finding maps in coffers or treasure chests were also fun when it wasn't sharing with artifact armor or astral rings. I say they should bring them back. The whole reason XI felt mysterious was because of being blind in a brand new zone.

Fog of war is also pretty nice.

Exactly, although sometimes that feeling was scary and daunting, it also made the zones feel completely mysterious, making them fun. I miss those times. Although the Crawlers Nest map quest was crazy long, I loved it. xD

I liked having all the maps available from the start, but wouldn't mind having to work for some of the new area maps. I'd welcome more reasons for more meaningful side-quests. Or it could be simple like having to explore the area and fill in the map as you go. Perhaps reaching new camps and touching the crystal would give you that chunk of the map.

I thought about it for a while, and I came up with this:

Instead of having maps pre-made for you, you uncover the area yourself and draw out your own map in your head. You remember the terrain for a while, but it turns unknown again after a while until you visit the area again. There could be a quest where to earn map drawing materials, so instead of having to remember then, you draw them out as you travel and then can always see it.
