You'll always have faster runs with good AoE dps, tank just needs to be able to survive the mass pulls is all.
My friends are melee dps, so our runs are slower, but I would rather enjoy the game with friends then force them to play a class they don't like for the sake of speed.
My gimp geared blm > my 7 i90 piece monk for WP speed runs![]()
Who cares anyway, it's 1-2 mins difference in an already laughably short dungeon.
Seems ironic after the speed run nerfs on AK that they go and add 100/30 tomes to a dungeon that's even quicker.
It's perfectly viable as a Warrior. The run goes much smoother in the JP speed run videos because the BRD is Foe Requieming and the WHM is stunning with Holy. A PLD runs into issue here when they run out of MP for flash, so the BRD ends up having to Ballad if the BLM wants to go full-bore.
As I've been running this as a SCH, some tips: While tanking them, move around as much as you can and have someone Heavy them. You'll get hit a lot less and it will free up the healer to do some damage, too. If you're doing it with a SCH, have them Eye for an Eye as your gathering them, and Miasma II as you run past. Swiftcast>Shadow Flare where you plan to tank them helps too.
I didn't notice anyone picking up Oil in the JApanese Videos. I know the vids were posted recently, but is it possible they are videos of pre-2.05 patch runs?
If you look at the last boss you'll see that they get red text (ie: myth tomestone cap message). They're from post-2.05.
Just for the sake of being thorough, I have posted another speed-run that shows an (almost) fully optimized 12 minute speed-run. There is one glitch with the SCH aggro at the beginning, but the rest was smooth sailing!
This one is not commentated, but includes all of the pulls that people have been saying only PLD's can do.

To be honest, and I say this as both a fully geared warrior and paladin-- warriors currently don't offer me any advantages whatsoever compared to paladin. And I'm glad SE noticed, and is going to be addressing that, presumably by buffing warrior mitigation.
But until they do, the tradeoff is basically:
* Bard has to play TP song for warrior, making the BLM slightly slower.
* Healer has to focus solely on warrior, can't DPS as much.
* Warrior has less defensive cooldowns, making point 2 even worse.
* Warrior has to skip some pulls "to be safe" if he wants to stay in speedrun time limits.
By no means is it IMPOSSIBLE to use a warrior tank and kudos to those who stuck through it, it's just more optimal to use a pally right now.
You are correct in saying PLD has more / better defensive CD's, and that definitely makes the tanking part of these runs easier for them. However, we are still able to do all of the same pulls as a WAR as long as we have a competent healer. My latest video shows that.
If these pulls are risky for anyone, I'd say it's a PLD. As mentioned earlier, in that 9min WP run the PLD lost aggro twice, nearly resulting in a death to the WHM or BLM. The WHM got down to 100 HP on the first pull, even. I would not be surprised at all if a number of their runs turn from 9 to 12-15 minute runs because of aggro issues / deaths. With a WAR you can remove the risk by having a good healer, as a PLD there's not much you can do to remove aggro issues. PLD's can only do so much for AOE aggro.
Also, TP song is not required. I don't think I've ever had a BRD play TP song for me in my WP speed runs, and never really needed it either. Instead they sometimes play Ballad for healer, but still rarely.
