Voice acting always breaks the immersion.

but they arent cheap to do so most opt to do text instead

That and 99% of the time it is easier to read something then to get everything from VO. Not all people pronouce words the same and it can be hard to understand it. Or there are those that play are deaf. I rather rely on text then VO. Most games with full vo can get annoying.

Precious few voice dubs sound very good. I'd personally rather have the original Japanese every time (one rather large disappointment I have had with FF titles).

But voice overs aren't everything. Between lore complaints and now a voiceover thread, I guess there are just too few people these days that will actually pick up a book.

Edit: lol, I made this post with no knowledge of what was going to be posted above me.

2nd edit: I should also be clear that I'm not against the OP's request. On a wide-scale standpoint, more cutscenes and voiceovers would probably attract more people.

tell that to 99% of games made from 1980-2000. Not to mention the first vo ff game was 10. and not even all of it. actually I can't think of a fully voiced over ff game. Also Zelda had never done any vo and that game is still popular.
