I'm quite convinced the PvP will be heavily party focused. After all, it has NEVER worked to make open world PvP in a MMO with classes because it just fills the forums with threads about "I can't kill a tank as a healer".
Cuase I will play any mmo that looks promising and ff14 is fun i just want to go own some noobs
Srsly?
GO play a PvP game. You're whining for PvP in a RPG. That's like asking for for story in CSS.

Sorry i thought this was a mmorpg where like other trolls have mentioned thAt pvp is in 95% of other mmos and RPGs
So I apologize for asking for a good pvp system in a game that I enjoy playing
Don't forget there are tons of other people out there just like me and well I guess you just enjoy playing with yourself
I played with other people in FFXI without ever doing anything in PVP. I guess the only thing to do with other people in real life is beat them up?Sorry i thought this was a mmorpg where like other trolls have mentioned thAt pvp is in 95% of other mmos and RPGs

Hokay since nobody's given a detailed reply (though I kinda can't blame them..) and while I've not much interest in it myself.. =.=
A form of PVP is due for implementation in the v2.1 update through the Wolves Den, around.. oh.. November. Ish. This will be a 4v4 system wherein people can either go in as a party or use something akin to the duty finder for random grouping if they want, with rewards for performance and abilities rebalanced for PVP instead of trying to change PVE abilities to fit PVP.
Yoshida has also said that there will, probably, be 1v1 PVP duels, but it'll be a lower priority and probably limited to the housing areas as more of a 'for fun' thing given it'd be too hard to balance it for meaningful rewards and so.
Finally, there is a formally announced mass PVP system called Frontlines. This /will/ be an open world combat system, but only within zones specifically for Frontlines. It will have its own rewards, its own systems, and is intended for entire grand companies to compete for rewards and resources with such large systems as summoning a full on primal once a week. But that is a long way off. Formally announced and planned, but not scheduled.
There.

They are adding 4v4 Arena PvP in patch 2.1 I thought I saw
something about 8v8 coming at some point as well. Maybe
around the same time?
Somewhere down the line they are adding larger scale (24v24)
grand company PvP battles. How these will work I have no
idea.
As for open world, I also thought I read somewhere that you
can dual people 1v1 in the housing areas. I'm really sorry,
I cannot remember where I read this information. I'll dig around
and see if I can find it again.
PvE and PvP skills will be completely seperate, as well, so that
they can balance them seperately. So whatever you have as
your PvE skills will not be used in PvP.
Edit: Guy above me beat me to it, haha. Must've been typing at the same time.
There's really no need for this. There's nothing wrong with wanting/looking forward to PvP in ARR. I'm also very much excited for it and want to see it come ASAP, though I do have reservations what with the only arena being a rather uninspired circular room with pillars (oh god, the memories). Supposedly they'll be adjusting all skills to work differently in PvP than they do in PvE, so that is a good sign off the bat.
There are a lot of people who love PvP in their MMO experience, myself included, and you really shouldn't be so hostile towards us.
