Vanya or DL? Which is better?

Darklight may not be better in stats, but it's better based on availability.

Anyone can save up the Philosophy Tomestones needed to buy the DL gear with enough time and patience put into running dungeons. Not everyone can afford the HQ, penta-melded Vanya gear that, last I checked on Hyperion, started at 200k and skyrocketed from there.

That's why you get full DL gear on your first char, then eventually make the money to afford crafted, in whatever way you can (I don't care how as long as it's not RMT). And can craft (or buy crafted) for other classes later on, on top. I intend to get crafted for Scholar even as I'll have DL for Scholar.

The question really is whether its worth your time and money to acquire Vanya? Personally, I don't see it considering I do fine with DL, and quite content having to do Coil to acquire Allagan gear or acquiring the myth stones for AF+!. But if I was to be offered Vanya for free, then sure. But me to blow over 200k for it? Why? xD

With perfect lvl IV x5 material melds on Vanya gear, it's obviously better.

However, that Vanya junk costs a metric ton of gil. Last time I logged in a checked, there was a single healer earring up for 900k gil + 150k (or more) gil per material + tip...ouch. I much prefer 'free' to something that requires a visit to mr. gil farmer. Maybe it's just me.

Right now, I am thinking of working towards hat and robe but then again by time I can get enough gil to afford it...perhaps Crystal Keep gear will be close to what I need and not look like the hobo gear called DL.

That is exactly how I feel after reading all this. I dont think I want to spend my gil on gear that is not really going to help me in the next stage. I mean it will but not for what I got to pay for it. Especially when coil drops better gear.

Get 17000 Philosophy tomes. You'll have the 63 Potash needed for Vanya and the 72 Peacock Ores needed for Astral/Rose Gold. The remaining items are nothing compared to this.

the question is it worth the time and effort to get the set or not. to me it is which is why i now have 3 pieces melded out of the set and working towards getting more. it's just a ton of runs dealing with df.

Far as I'm aware they drop 50 Mythology tomes.
