    What is target filtering/cycling?

I don't understand what this does. I see options for when your weapon is drawn or sheathed, and it looks like you can set what targets you want to cycle through, but how is this used?

For example, I have a keybind that cycles through the nearest enemies, and that's all it targets. So why would I need filters if the shortcut is already set for just enemies, and not NPCs or other players, etc.?

    Thanks.

for example - when on my healer and I have my wpn unsheathed I cannot target players/npcs who are not in my party - unless I change my filters. So, for an example scenario, say im doing fates and I see the tank/dps needing heals but im not in their party - unless I change the filters I cannot even target them =D

I think each class would have pros and cons to different settings heh.

These options are applied if you use Tab to cycle through enemies or Left and Right on the Gamepad. The filters are honestly more of a Gamepad function than a Mouse/Keyboard one.

Well, I changed TAB to A, but it still cycles only through enemy NPCs and nothing else, so I don't see the need to filter out other NPCs, PCs, etc. They aren't even a part of what the key does in the first place. It's set to "target nearest enemy," so why would you need a filter for that?

I hope im actually understanding u correctly (its late here) but what im saying is ppl ADD to the basic settings..like in my example so they can also tab/triggertarget to players when in battle. So jt isnt a filtering OUT ,its a filtering IN.

The filters in my settings have everything checked, yet it still doesn't target anything but enemies. I suppose it could only apply to a controller, but there are even more settings underneath these settings that are grayed out and have specific controller options, like the buttons on a controller. The settings that are available to me seem to apply to a keyboard setup, yet don't seem to work. Maybe it's more controller stuff.

There are keyboard bindings available that mimic a gamepad's targeting, and I'd imagine the filter settings apply to those keys. I believe it's numpad 4 and 6 by default. Note that these keys soft-target something (giving you the circle on the 3D model and allowing you to cast spells etc. on it, without making it your target), so to switch targets to something you select with these keys, you also need a confirm key bound (numpad 0 by default).

(All of this is gleaned from other threads I have a relatively certain memory of; no warranty supplied.)
