Always Gifthorse Always
Let me put it this way XI has probably the worst menu navigation I've seen in a game but XIV took the no.1 prize in that competition in few minutes.
Why I can't even access all the menus on a controller in XIV!
Other fun things:
-Skillbar is to the XI spell menu what Tabasco is for a cake. Once you end up in a wrong row you're probably taking 3 punches to the face before you find the skill you're looking for.
-...Which is insane since XIV skill bar let's you use about 1/4th of the skills that were available to me in XI lol
-Why the hell is the equipment screen such a mess? Honestly did the devs even TRY to navigate from head to pouches using a D-pad?! Honestly as punishment they should do 20 000 equipment swaps on a controller.
-Fishing ('nuff said)
-Just let me eat this useless Culinarian item real quick...wait...I CAN'T!
-It's understandable that chatlog gets 99 999 lines of spam even on the most minimum log settings but it would be nice to access the text in full-screen while auto running over the copypasteville to see what that NPC said
Reducing the menu lag was a massive improvement but after that I haven't seen any of the real issues being adressed in any way.
Tanaka mentioned a new UI being worked on that would be ready during Feb or March or something.
I imagined it to be an entire upheaval of the original system and supplanted with something similar to the Microsoft Windows UI (with lots of customisation and resizable windows) or a Flash-based UI or something.
Heya!
I guess they working on a new Battle System means a re-control of the UI. We'll be able to exploit the problems that will merge from the new UI by Yawping In These F**CKING FORUMS LIKE LITTLE BI- giving constructive suggestion on how to give a better User Experience.
So basically yes. In my opinion, they revamping the Battle System means working on the UI too and adapt it to both PC and PS3 users.
See ya!
The current priority is now fixing the engine, the server interaction coding and the convoluted AH system. At least that's what it should be.
As much as I am a fan of the FFVII UI looks wise I dont think a futuristic FFXIII is in keeping of the game, however I think the current UI could be given a little bit of sparkle and still be in keeping with the game's aestics.
The functionality of the UI needs to be improved, Yoshi-P did suggest back in Feb/Mar that two UI's could run in tandem a PC based 'drag and drop' style UI and a PS3 controller friendly UI. Hopefully more details will become clear closer to the mega patch in June if any UI changes will be made. (crosses fingers)
UI IS NOT FINE!
Please go look at any other MMO out there and tell me that "it's fine"
The UI is not designed for PC and it needs to be, SE need to make 2 versions of the UI one for PC and one for PS3 (which is what we currently have)
PC UI needs:-
- UI needs to be client side and not server side
- drag and drop
- right click to equip items
- better icons in the inventory (not a list)
- more action bars
- action bars that don't pop up and diappear during battle
- needs an in game graphics configuration panal
- a UI configuration panal with tick boxes and options for all the text based commands they have added. (such as displaying of head gear, enemy hp, enemy icon's etc)
- a better way to change class/equip/actions etc (Macro's are far too slow)
- there is tons of other stuff that I can't think of right now ..
PC Controls:-
- we need Mouse look with left click
- auto run with left and right click
- dedicated hotkeys for menu's like equip page, inventory etc (hell even FF11 had these)

It was in production in 2007.
I play a lot of MMOs currently, and this is one of the few that allows gamepad use and I actually like gamepad controls. It's call personal preference, and to me, you can do everything you need to with the current UI, but it still has latency problems.
Also, I like not having my view distrupted by a big ass actionbar in the bottom-center of my screen all the time.
