Well do you think you'd win an Oscar for Best Picture if you made half a movie on the big screen and then half in a pamphlet that you get with your movie tickets? However, an RPG is filled with storyline and lore. An MMORPG tend to have storyline and lore on their website as well. Ironically most people don't care for the stories in-game and I've played MMOs since the 90s that I'm well aware of how people will spam through convos/not listen/ignore text boxes and just want the loot. So it is indeed a video-game, but it's also an MMORPG that are a different type of game.
Most offline games don't utilize their website beyond a flash game or basic information. MMORPGs utilize their website for much, much more.
