Not Bragging or anything >.> Back in the day before the TP nerf. I had a Mithra named Nuala who was a Dragoon one of the first to 75 after ROTZ/US Release.
Nuala is one of the leaders of the Lancer group in Gridania :P
I have to thank Square-Enix for the amazing job they have done recreating Final Fantasy XIV from Scratch. Especially the inclusion of Missing Genders which we petitioned for in good faith. This was proof to us players that the Developers are truly Sympathetic to our requests and that being honest and vocal can pay off with the amazing characters we have who are Female Roegadyn, Male Miqote, and Female Highlanders. Thank You SE, Thank You Community Team, Thank You Yoshi-P.

Outside of small cameos in event artwork, a cameo appearance in the ending cutscene for A Crystalline Prophecy, and the April Fool's magazine cover of Buront and the Dirty Ninja, I don't think he's actually been worked into the lore. >.>
The majority is all been tossed in by the fans, including all those studio Ghibli parody songs themed around Buront, and that one parody of the Rurouni Kenshin OP song. The FFXI/Touhou crossover made using RPG-Maker notwithstanding, of course.

* The sad thing is that FFXIV turned RDM into a turret, and people think that's what it's supposed to be. It's supposed to combine sword and magic into something more, not spend the bulk of gameplay spamming spells and jump into melee for only 3 GCDs before scurrying back to the back line like good little casters.
* Design ideas:
Red Mage - COMPLETE (https://tinyurl.com/y6tsbnjh), Chemist - Second Pass (https://tinyurl.com/ssuog88), Thief - First Pass (https://tinyurl.com/vdjpkoa), Rune Fencer - First Pass (https://tinyurl.com/y3fomdp2)

<Playerbase made up of spoiled brats> Waaaaaah SE give us more info!!
<SE> Ok, here you go.
<Playerbase made up of spoiled brats> NOOOOOO not that info!! You're the worst developer ever! I hate you I hate you!
<SE> Sigh...
"Put story in the game!"
"There are sidequests filled with lore"
"I have no incentive to do the sidequests! Give me some lootz"
Did that train of conversation really just happen?
If you don't care about lore, the side quests probably aren't there for you.
I've been something of a supporter of SE's methods till now (I do genuinely enjoy these articles though, as I said before, I'd really love a news rack to be put into the adventurer's guilds and an NPC to shout when new articles come out, immersion etc). However, I think as others have said, in this case I think we needed a bit more than a few black and white pictures. Ah well, only a month to go.

Carrot and stick. Lore is not a substantial enough carrot to make me do the side quests and I suspect a large percentage of the playing people. I enjoy the lore on the websites - I never complained about that - I merely stated there is no incentive to do a side quest. If I want to know the lore behind a side quest with no reward I can look up any one of the wiki's available to the community."Put story in the game!"

Sad maybe, but I'm just being honest.

Well, it's true that you could look it up on wiki, but if you could do it in game, why wouldn't you? =pCarrot and stick. Lore is not a substantial enough carrot to make me do the side quests and I suspect a large percentage of the playing people. Quite frankly, I would rather, grind / gather / camp an NM / do job quests or storyline .... basically anything I find fun in game rather than waste time running all over the place for a piece of lore (again, I'm just being brutally honest - not confrontational).

I don't think you're being confrontational, and you are entitled to your opinion. ^-^ I basically do a lot of what you do, but some days I like to take on a few on the side-quests just to learn a little something about the world. They're not major or really all that important, you're right. However, they can help immersion a little and introduce new players to new ideas and information. Or just give an older player a little something different to do that day while waiting for leves to start or something. =p
It still can and is entertaining to some. At least I can say I enjoyed my time doing them and I knew what to expect from them, so it's not like I was disappointed.
I didn't know FFXIV stood for Fan Fiction XIV.
