    Idea for Cover

    Since the ability as it stands is way to hard to use/be effective in normal groups, I propose that it be changed to something like this;

    Trait; You take damage in place of any damage from party members within 10 yalms of you that are in yellow hp or below, only works when your hp is in white.

    hmm, not a bad idea. Very classic Cover. If it were my choice, I would like to see Cover be a 30 second stance where i take the physical damage for anyone within a 12y radius of myself, during which, I am also Pacified and unable to use any action that consumes TP.

    I would also like to see a Trait called Counter. Which would give me a 20% Chance to deal an attack with a potency of 100 whenever I effectively "Cover" an attack.

    30 seconds is a long time for people to spam skills. I would probably have to say no to that idea because not being able to spam a skill for 30 seconds while a WHM is spamming Medica 2 could make things very dangerous.

    shield swipe basically already is like this, except its an ability that works off of block instead and it inflicts pacify.

    i like the idea, but would prefer a cover that re-directs all damage rather than just physical.

    I--like everyone else--liked the auto-cover of knight's guard in ff3, but I think this would be a little too strong.

    Have you tried using the macro:

    /macroicon "Cover"
    /ac "Cover" <tt>
    /ac "Cover" <t>

    This makes cover very easy to use even in pugs. Might still be a good idea to leave the un-macrod ability on your tool bar somewhere.

    Cover in its current state is not that bad but the small radius it has makes it kinda meh and clunky ability, increased range and making it work on all types of DMG with reduced amount, lets say 50% dmg instead all dmg would make it pretty awesome and propably pretty balanced skill(counting pvp aswell when that gets added).

    Cover in FFXIV is almost identical to how it was in FFXI, I like how it is. Just like in FFXI it is for coordinated situations not on-the-fly panic.

    Example:
    A boss with phases based off of health where one phase is really nasty but only takes knocking a 'small' amount of health down.
    The DD with best spike damage runs up to tank and pops all of their cooldowns.
    DD goes nuts not holding back.
    Tank uses Cover on the DD when their enmity spikes.
    Tank uses Provoke when Cover runs out.
    Fight goes back to 'normal'.

    Another time would be in 8-mans when a Warrior is MT. The Paladin OT uses Cover on the Warrior for parts of the fight where the Warrior's lower damage mitigation is an issue.

    Agreed. So far in my experience, the range makes cover not even useful. The one time I used it was simply to see how close I had to be, and the range was really bad. The few times I've lost agro I've found re-gaining agro to be the better choice than trying to get in range (and turning mobs towards the party in the process) to use cover. The obvious is the one with agro should run to the tank, but if they were paying attention to begin with then the situation of cover possibly being useful would not have happened in the first place.




    Note: maybe it's worth using in end game, but at 44/45 I'm just not there yet.

    If they were going to keep the range of cover the same, I wouldn't mind seeing a 'charge to party member's side' added to it. Similar to intervene in WoW.
