I swear if they implement anything other than chocobo mounts that may be a complete deal-breaker for me. That was by far the most annoying thing that pissed me off in WoW was everyone's obnoxious mounts.

One more thing. Don't let the concept of having mounts other than Chocobos completely turn you off. Think about this:

What if they implemented something like XIII. (Hear me out)

Determend by the Guardian you chose at the Character Creation and the starting class chosen, determaned your summon/mount.

As an example, say you chose
---Halone the Fury and Pugilist, your summon mount unique to that: Ixion
---Byregot and Miner determaned that you'd get: Alexander.

Just an idea. But think about how the characters in XIII rode their unique mounts. I'm not nessisarly saying they'd have to be classic FF summons either, they could add different creatures or newer summons altogether.

Also, you could only obtain this kind of mount at a very high rank. To coincide with the story you could unlock said inner summon at R50. That way a Chocobo would have it's staple position until endgame. You could even go as far as requiring your chosen class at R50 to get your epic mount. Idk, just ideas!

My point is, I believe that the idea of alternate mounts beyond Chocobo could be a neat concept. Keep an open mind!
