Really amazing how many NON FF fans are playing this game

Reading some of this crazy topics and requests, gets me thinking how man of these players are actually loyal final fantasy fans.

I cannot understnad how people ask for the following off a FF game:

OPEN PVP
Permadeath
PVP ONLY SEVERS
and so on and so forth....

THIS IS A FINAL FANTASY!!! Not your average PVP game.

So people need to get those facts straight and understand that things like STORY, and amazing cut scenes will take priority in this game.

FF11 lasted 10+ years (and in some capacity is still going) without ever making a serious PVP mode. In fact, it's the most profitable Final Fantasy of all time. I'd be more than fine for this game to "only" last 10+ years.

That was 10 years ago, the MMO Market has changed tremendously since then, times have changed, PvP is now an MMO Necessity

I personally don't see this game lasting any longer than SWTOR.

Thing is, SWTOR went free-to-play, something I don't think FFXIV will ever do. That tends to retain players or at least get people popping in now and then. Not to mention each class in SWTOR has a very in-depth interactive main storyline that provides more longevity to gamers who want more story content that XIV can provide (currently). Their PVP is also more fun, but I think that's more of a side issue. I could see SWTOR surviving (though maybe not thriving) longer in the long run compared to FFXIV for those reasons. XIV needs more expansion/story add-ons STAT, the way FFXI did. With each pack you get more areas, more story, more reasons to keep playing. Right now there's a severe wall that people are hitting too frequently and it's bringing things down for a lot of people.

What? XI was out for a long time before RoZ ever came into play. Ya it was there sometime after NA release (RoZ wassame time a PS2 release), but man you are way off if you think expansions came fast and furious in XI.

I think you misread, I'm not saying FFXI was fast with its expansion releases, but that those expansions were crucial to keeping people interested. NA release had the advantage of Zilart being lumped into it, so right at the start you felt that there was more to do... and as I stated in the non-quoted part of my original post, SWTOR has more story content compared to XIV to keep people interested longer (if they are the type that want more story).

which is entirely ok considering the game everyone apparently thinks is a failure has the second highest number of subscription (!) after WoW. but hey... yes... please live in the 2 year old bubble of 'tortanic'.

no really. ARR will be fine. same as TOR is doing just fine. (and yes, it actually is doing fine, even if it's the cool thing to do to hate on it)

I beg to difer. it was the LOYAL FANS that "sortta in a way" saved this game for death.

The name and prestige of the brand also helped to salvage this. but still this is and will be a final fantasy.
I dont think SWTOR had a stronger following than this.
