I'm just curious as I have not delved much into my Chocobo companion. Does he become pretty strong? Because Lv50 mobs even with my Rank2 Chocobo were incredibly easy with it.

Wow... that is all I have to say. I just got mine to rank 5 last night.. granted I kinda gave up on grinding it out awhile ago. Doing it without the fates is the question. I heard people getting it up quickly running their chocobo in DD groups prior to the DD fix.

There is no purpose to these companions, has anyone done anything outside of a dungeon where having a second person would make or break anything?

They assist really well with leveling other classes. Also if you're fate grinding alone they can help out by healing you if you're a dps. It really depends on what kind of chocobo you made.

Mine heals me very good for an npc.

I spec'd mine as a healer while leveling my conjurer, and when I started leveling thaumaturge, having a healing NPC stuck to my side really made life simple (and I was pleasantly surprised how easily he kept me topped off) . I'd say the healing and attack specs are the most useful. I don't know anyone who has had much luck trying to make defender actually work like it "should."

There is no reason to have one...I havn't even done the quest. They shouldn't cost every use ( lettuce) and there should be content that calls for it. But it does, and there isn't.
