    Why does SE hate melee dps?

    Can someone explain to me why (other than our limit break) any group should take a MNK/DRG over a SMN/BRD.

    They do about the same (or more) damage, and have free movement to avoid AOE's better.

    What realistic reason is there to bring melee dps other than friends or drops?

    Why does SE hate Melee DPS?

    As a dragoon I am biased but I think dragoon/bard work really well together. Dragoon can use disembolwel debuff on enemies which boosts damage for Dragoons and Bards

    Well your LB is actually useful to a group, so you've got that going for you.

    Try BRD. No one asks you to LB. Ever. Because it's useless.

    You know those times when you've got a boss almost dead, but he'll probably kill you first unless you get a really big burst of damage on him? Me? I just stand there derping, singing songs.

    MNK's and SMN's consistently top parses.
    BRD's have the utility of range and free movement.
    BLM's have sleep and burst.

    DRG's have cool looking armour I guess.

    Free movement to avoid AOE's better? I've seen TONS of bards/summoners get SMASHED by Titan's landslide or plumes, whereas I just gracefully swivel around Titan's base, avoiding everything aside from stomps while placing all my damage on him.

    And even if I have to move away from a boss because of an AOE around the boss, I still have a long ranged attack and my DoTs are still ticking.

    It is well known already that DRG and MNK are at a disadvantage Risk vs. Reward -wise in combat and it can be argued that they consistently put out lower DPS than other DPS jobs in many boss fights due to boss-centered AoE abilities which force melee out of prime dps range. I would expect to see some buffs to melee DPS in the future. However, SE is currently putting out larger fires than minor balance issues. See: End-game content, DF Load, RMT, hacks, various bugs/exploits, etc.

    Yes, there are balance issues, no, they are not major/game-breaking, yes, other, more important stuff will take priority for now. You can expect melee DPS to get balanced, but don't hold your breath... it may be a couple months.
