Observatorium Crafting Leves

I was going to use these to raise weaving to 50 but was not able to talk to the guy in the middle of town. He said I was too weak to take the leves...but my crafting was like level 40 at the time...but my BLM is only level 30...do you have to raise your main class adventuring to open up crafting leves here?

Basically, yes. You have to do the sidequest "Leves of the Observatorium" that he hands out before you can do any of his leves. This is a level 35 sidequest, and he'll make you do the battlecraft leve "Saving Bessy". Most levemetes have to be unlocked in this fashion.

You can always do the crafting leves handed out at the leve counter in the city that has the guild for that craft. They'll go all the way up to 45 and are open if you've done the unlock leves quest in your home city at level 10. If you want to do higher-level *gathering* leves, on the other hand, you're fooked, since city leve counter gathering leves only go up to, I think, level 25.

That's what I've been doing. Some of the Observatorium quests were just a bit better for material useage, but that is what I used to finish my weaving. I was just going by my little cheat sheet that I had copied on triple turn in leve info.

Thanks for this info also. I surely hope they take into consideration that some crafters didn't level their adventuring yet...kinda dumb that I can't pick them up on a high enough level crafter. Should be able to open leves with any skill high enough to obtain them...oh well...

My FSH is 28 and Red Coral is damned expensive on the Market Board (it's come down recently, though).

Haha...I just finished GSM before weaver and made Fire Brands to 50...not too bad...plus sold my spare HQ ones for about 2k each...From level 45 made about 81 of each mat and just crafted away...only took about 3 hours...not bad for 5 levels...Seems to work best to just do level 35 leves up to 50...did that with weaving too...but with Alch I did the HQ hi-low potion all the way to 50...easy too since all the botany items were nearby...I think I made the most money on that one too hehe.
