I was a lot more descriptive (I gave some links to different programs like Battleping, WTFast, etc) in my question.

This is really awful news because I get 300+ ping and I'm starting to have trouble avoiding those red circles. My bf just transferred to a Japanese server to see if it's better there.

Its one of those things that are not allowed.. but they'd never be able to enforce. and instead of transferring to a jp server, it would have made more sense to create a character on a jp server.

SE is so uptight with everything... everything is server-side which is probably why things are so slow in-game. Maybe it's paranoia but idk what.

That's a blanket response to a specific question. The reason is a legal one. That can't allow a special accommodation for you for a specific program.

Actually a lot of stuff is client side and has presented its own issues.

Pretty much this. It's no doubt similar to XI and their official stance that using windower was against the ToS, despite the vast majority of PC players using it to make the game somewhat playable.

1. Using a VPN will not be detectable by SE.
2. Using a 3rd party application to modify your networking configuration independant of FFXIV is not against ToS.
3. Support just copy/pasted the same template they send to everyone who asks "can I use ___ with FFXIV to do ___".
4. If you are having latency problems connecting to a server in the country in which you reside, good luck when connecting to a server in a country overseas.

Example: Ask SE support if it is ok to use Opera with FFXIV. Or if you can use RDP to play FFXIV from another location. They will send you the exact same response, even though Opera is a web browser and RDP would only put you at a disadvantage playing the game. SE will still tell you the use of 3rd party applications is against ToS.
