PS3 freezing up after update

Ok, now this has happend every time me or my brother have logged out on ps3. Whenever we use the "Exit Game" option while logging out, after it saves it gives us just a solid black screen. And waiting doesn't make it go away, but it freezes our ps3 when we shut the system down via the "Playstation" button. This has happend EVERY time we have logged out, and only came after the last patch. I'd appreciate some response to this as i don't feel like killing my ps3 for this game.
