Got Dragoon 50 recently, what to roll next?

As the title says, I have my first 50 as of last week. I like DRG, but I don't want to do all my tome grinding with just a melee DPS role. I find the DRG skill priority can get a bit robotic when I play it for a dungeon or two, coupled with the fact that I don't bring anything to the fight, other than damage. That being the case, I'm looking to either roll a tank, ranged DPS, or scholar to change things up a bit. For those of you who have a 50, can you comment on which class feels like they bring the most to the group? I've leveled a few classes to the 15-30s range, but I feel like I need a few informed opinions before I decide what to level next.

    Thanks!

I'm basically a fresh 50 paladin but read the forums. General consensus is paladins are better for endgame at Titan and Coil. Part of it is because of the skill requirement and part of it is because paladins naturally mitigate better. Paladin is really easy to single target tank. You just do the 3 move rage of halone combo and time your cool downs. Paladin is not easy to off tank adds imo. For example, I try my best to get the adds in Castrum (only done 3 times) but can never keep enmity on them all. I've never played warrior so I can't comment on it much but warrior is more difficult to play well because you have to do things like manage stacks for self healing. If you like warrior though, once we get crystal tower in 2.1, warrior should be able to tank everything including Coil. Right now your tank of choice depends on how patient you are for things to get equal and what play style you prefer.

Lets go over a few things here

Things Dragoons bring to the group

    Piercing Debuff
Off tank (Lets say a healer pulls threat on an add. A DRG can Spineshatter dive and start defending the healer.)
Great all around damage in both DoTs and burst.
Great stun (20 sec cooldown off GCD stun)
Mobility (Jumps let you get to where you need to be)
    Threat Dump

Really fun playstyle. I really love the way the rotations/combos work.

HT > PH > FR> IDC > TTT > HT > PH > FR > TTT > and so on. It just keeps going. The number of off GCD skills you have is insane. Overall it is a very fun class.

    Now onto your question.

If you think DRGs are boring then don't play ANY ranged.

If you want to be a PLD and tank endgame that is fine. It is not a super fun class to play but it is wanted endgame for everything.

I love to heal in this game. I have a 50 SCH/SMN and a 50 DRG and I LOVE to heal. I do it whenever I am not needed as a DPS. Why do I love to heal? Because SCH is soooo good at multi tasking. You have so many things you CAN do that it makes each pull very different. You base your next move on how the Tank/group is doing. Cleric stance + 5 Dots is AMAZING.

If you are looking for fun and powerful I think you should go SCH.

    AOE pulls look like this.

Cleric Stance > Bio II > Miasma > Bio > Bane > Shadow Flare > Thunder/Aero on each target that still has a good amount of HP.

While doing this I watch the teams HP and I am ready to leave Cleric Stance at any time to heal. Here is a HUGE note. The final skill you get as a SCH heals for 20% of the targets HP even IF you are in Cleric stance. It does not care. The skill also has NO GCD. It has a 1 sec cooldown and can be used as long as you have Aether Flow. Most of the time the tanks only need a few heals from me while my pet does most of the healing. So I just throw in a few instant heals and cure debuffs when needed. Both of those don't need me to leave Cleric Stance.

If you want to hear more about SCH healing/damage just let me know. I just don't want to put you to sleep with it if its not a class you care about.

I am definitely interested in SCH/SMN, but more so in SMN, as my 4-man static group's BLM is going SCH. Also, the tank is rolling BLM as a second job, but it's not like I have to roll a tank just for that.

Still, I'm waffling way too much on what to do.

Tbh, I'm not sure if PLD exactly suits my playstyle, so perhaps I'd be better served by waiting for WAR to be buffed? I think the only thing attracting me about PLD is the lore and their AF/Relic.

Understandable. PLD has a very simple play style that I tried to hint at. If you do tank, I would try warrior because you are looking for something that is more involved. If you find WAR enjoyable to play then keep it. I am glad paladin is doing good right now but I like things to be even. Classes get buffed and debuffed in almost any online RPG or MMO whatever you want to say. WAR should be fine in time.

I personally wouldn't touch Thunder/Aero, but mainly Thunder due to the fact that you cannot use abilities like Lustrate whilst casting and you cannot spread it. I'd much prefer fill the gap with Ruin II spam. I used to like Ruin II mainly for the ability to heal with my pet whilst DPSing, however since the patch that isn't an issue, but since spamming Ruin II presents no mana issues, I still use it over Ruin II for the extra mobility. As for the Order of your abilities, Shadow Flare + Miasma II are better first for AoE pulls, while for single target, the order is fine (with no Bane of course).

Thunder is 240 pot and Aero is 200. Why wouldnt you be casting these? You like your 80 pot ruin?

Also you Bio II > Miasma > Bio > Bane first so your tank get get some solid threat because you will be pulling a lot.
