Change/Merge Servers?

Hey guys, not sure if this has been brought up before, but it's actually one of my biggest irks with the game right now. I joined a high pop server when the game came out, but my friends got the standard edition a week later and couldn't get in, so they all went to a low pop server and asked me to scrap my character and join them. Against my better judgement I conceded. Flash-forward to today, and they've now abandoned me in a server that doesn't quite have the population density I'm looking for; Behests with two people is starting to get boring. Now I'm fairly certain a "change world" payment option will come at some point, as its already in FFXI, though I would like to have that sooner rather than later. Although one thing I've speculated about is the possibility of merging the servers. The server list was expanded in the first place to accommodate the initial large income of players, although with many of them gone it's rendered some of those servers with only a few patches of civilization remaining. I just think that, especially with the people that still stick with the game, if there's anything that's gonna keep us here, it'll be our interaction with other players and the community; hence my desire to play with as many people as possible.

...why didn't you just make a new character in the low pop server and keep the old one in the high pop server? It's not like they're charging you for extra characters.

Or was this before we found out they where extending the free trial?

Yeah, this was a week after the game came out. I only scrapped my character because I didn't feel too bad only losing a few days.

because he was playing on the high pop server for only a week, therefore his character was very low level when he left. he spent 6 months on the low population server with his friends which means likely multiple r50's on the low population server and likely one r15 on the other. would you want to lose all the work you had put into the game to start new again?

Sorry, I stopped thinking for some reason when I read it.
Yeah, that sucks now, but they'll probably set aside any possibility of merging servers till a bit after the 1.18 update just in case it grabs in more people.

Fixed it for you. Merges -> Not gonna happen until all arrows have been fired, and then, if it's still needed, maybe.

I really think they should merge a few of the low population servers with the medium population servers :X I started on Rabanastre, which is actually a medium population city, but even then I had a hard time finding anybody outside of Ul'dah. I moved to Selbina and it still feels a bit barren.

They should only merge the lowest population with the lowest-medium populations, and then leave some of the low population servers for the eventual PS3 release...however, as it is right now, it doesn't look like they're going to bring a substantial amount of new players into the game...the population is spread way too thinly between 18 servers and on top of that, the world is incredibly large on each server so even if there are 1000 people online it will feel barren.

EDIT: I also don't think new players will jump on the low population servers :X And if they do, crafters will have a horrible time. Even on Selbina it's hard to find crafting materials in the Market Wards...I can't imagine how bad it is on the low population servers.

SE said they wont add a server change system to later in the game but this is when tanaka was the boss so who know now maybe around ps3 maybe...

Either no-one is playing this game anymore or I'm in a really dead server.

I could easily re-roll on another server so it seems really artificial that SE wants to keep me from playing with other people. I feel like the months I've committed to this game are being paid back by SE holding my character data hostage on a dead server.
