Are Paladins really Paladins?

So, don't get me wrong, I love playing my Paladin, but as we all know, we don't really "Feel" like paladins... more like run of the mill Knights don't you think?

Well, I just noticed that untranslated the "Paladin" job is actually written in Katakana as "Naito" or, "Knight".

Makes me curious if they didn't intend for us to be "paladins" and simply added it for flavor.

It was written the same in FFXI and they were considered paladins then too.

Weird, neither "Knight" or "Paladin" are japanese words, makes me wonder why they chose to use ナイト (naito), instead of パラディン (paradin).

Interestingly, Paladins are not, in fact, holy knights.
They're just the elite royal guard of Ul'Dah. ('just' but yeah)

Yea I got that much from the job quests, but again makes me wonder why they chose to call us paladins if really we are just Knights, or Royal Gaurd, lol.
