Why do people blame WoW for the rude players? They existed and acted like this before playing the game, it didn't magically change them. Having to deal with these people is just a consequence of the genre getting noticed and gaining popularity over the years. I also find it silly people claim the genre is getting "dumbed down". It really is quite simple, the games have been made to be less time consuming, because face it, how many people can dedicate the kind of time EQ1 required to gaming nowadays? Oh, they should just not play MMO's then, right? Wrong, just because MMO's started out as huge time sinks, doesn't mean it has to stay that way. Time consuming doesn't make things any more difficult, just tedious. Well I seem to have gone off on a rant. Ah well, I hope you all have a great day, don't let the rude ones get to you.

This post wins. WoW has nothing to do with this issue outside of the fact that it made the genre of MMOs more popular. Granted, the pace at which WoW moved in comparison to its competitors is a large part of what drove that popularity but pacing is not the issue. The issue is that there will always be people in the world that have a "me first" attitude and a "go! go! go!" approach to whatever it is that they're doing; it doesn't just happen in MMOs. WoW did not create these people, these people started playing WoW. Now that this genre is more popular and more accessible by a larger audience (for those who don't know, internet access has greatly improved since EQ/UO), these types have people have begun playing games like FFXIV. As such, we must coexist with these players and do what we can to avoid, ignore, or mitigate their impact on our game experiences regardless of how frustrating it can be at times.
