Should we be paying if we aren't able to play when we want?

I get the maintenance is essential and all of us want patches with extra content to be added into the game. I'm asking if it is even legal to have us pay for something that we're unable to play when we want to? It seems like every other time I am able to play one of the two days I have off work is a day when there's maintenance...yet I paid for 3 months because I wanted that silly flying mount. I know that it's my fault.

I actually sent this sort of message to customer support which offered me a generic reply saying that sorry, not at this time, but we'll pass this information along to the developers.

So yeah..holding my breath to hear back from the developers.

It's kinda funny that I quit playing FFXI because it literally soaked up all of my free time doing things like just traveling from one place to another...and if this keeps up, I'll probably quit FFXIV because during my free time I'm unable to even play the game.

You must me new to playing multiplayer games completely. There's ALWAYS a little game downtime at some point or another due to updates, maint, or whatever.

If you'd actually read through the terms of agreement and such that you agreed to when you first started playing you'd realize that you do, in fact, pay for maintenance. If there was no maintenance then eventually there would be no game to pay for. They're also not going to work around your personal schedule for it, they do it when it's most convenient for them to get it done.

5. INTERRUPTION TO THE SERVICE

From time to time, in order to provide our customers with the optimal gaming experience, it is necessary for Square Enix to conduct routine maintenance on the computers and/or servers that support the Game. During these times, access to the Game or support services may be interrupted. Access may also be temporarily suspended in whole or in part, without notice, due to emergency repairs, fire, flood, explosion, war, strike, embargo, governmental action or failure to act, the act of any civil or military authority, act of God, or by any other causes beyond Square Enix's control, or any other reasons for which Square Enix, in its sole discretion, deems that temporary suspension is necessary. You acknowledge that disruptions of service may occur and waive any causes of action against Square Enix in any way arising from or related to any such disruptions of service.

4.7 Refunds in Exceptional Circumstances Only. The entirety of your FFXIV Subscription Fee is applied by Square Enix to the FFXIV Service Account on the day that it is charged. All charges related to the Game are non-refundable unless third-party criminal activity is involved, as determined by Square Enix. Therefore, if you deactivate your FFXIV Service Account in the middle of a 90-day Billing Cycle, you will not receive a refund for the remainder of the Billing Cycle, but may continue to play the Game until the Billing Cycle ends.

Dear OP, if you don't like to have game downtime during server maintenance or update I suggest you play some other game.

I know Guild Wars 2 do not have any form of downtime even during their every 2 weeks game update or during their weekly server maintenance.

SE will always have server downtime for maintenance and they will do it at worst possible time such as during NA prime time, but not during JP prime time.

TOS about interruption of service is there to protect SE backside and we as customer are "forced" to agree to it in order to play their game even after we pay.

Looks like you finally uncovered the biggest conspiracy surrounding Square Enix. They purposefully schedule the game to be down for maintenance whenever it coincides with your free time. Because they're out to get you.
