I personally agree with much of what you said, and I myself consider my gaming habits somewhere between casual and hardcore depending on my responsibilities. But in general, no one is ruining the experience for you. Balancing a game to be approachable, yet difficult and rewards that are tangible yet very rewarding is extremely difficult when most games are not made to satisfy those needs to us individuals, but to make money. It's ugly, but it's the truth. Companies like Blizzard do a fairly good job listening to their fans and although they had a blunder with D3 at launch, they will make up for it by making it better. Square did something similar with this game but will always appeal to the masses, over hardcore gaming out of necessity. If I could make this game better though it would be through character customization, materia and end game dungeons. That would be the most direct way to appeal to as many people as possible, whilst leaving most of the game intact as is for casual peeps.

Isn't that how it typically goes for a young MMO? The bigger badass FCs who put more hours into the game beat it first (and somewhat quickly)? I'm somewhere between hardcore and causal (maybe?), but I have no problem with there being content that I'd need to put more time into in order to complete.

Yoshi-P says he hopes the game has years of subs, and if they could push content out at a reasonable rate, does it really matter that the majority of players haven't reached it yet? Hell, as a casual I'd be thinking "heck yea! more for me to do when I get to 50 and/or complete raid-X" or even "my fc isn't doing to well on this dungeon, maybe we could do a couple of runs on this one just to give us something to do".

Again, its an MMO, which is appealing because at any one level you typically have options. If those options range according to difficulty, so what? I'm sure players with similar RL time constraints could also work on an FC, setting up runs if they need to, even if they don't have the same amount of time to dedicate to the game.

its the ridiculously annoying mechanics, like turn 2 rot passing.

Ok with a group of decent players, who basically require a VOIP program (hurray communicating with rage modes, drunk people, and whiners that I don't even know)
to do the run to being with.
come on, DO THIS MECHANIC PERFECTLY OR INSTANT WIPE.
That's a lazy mechanic to a fight. enough with the timers, the enraging bosses ect.
can't they do a fight that's just genuinely fun to do and has a little rom for error?

coil turns are an absolute nightmare to do unless youre with people you know, why should I run with newer players when all that really means in the end is "man this is going to be a long night of losing over and over" simply because the mechanics are too unforgiving, I mean if everything is going to be an AOE fest, at least change the duct tape on the servers every once in a while.

You don't *need* voice comms to do the fight... it just makes it easier to coordinate. Focus target the person you are supposed to be picking the rot up from. Watch their timer for pick up, watch your timer for drop off... where is the *need* for comms there... pay attention to your own little world. Where voice comms become "required" is on interrupts and boss swapping. But even those could be worked around with some clever shout macros. "I am interrupting. Interrupt on CD for 30 seconds" and "Oh S*** I screwed up someone else get the interrupt". Cause that is pretty much all we say in TS...

Also, I don't know what kind of bad people you are trying to do coil with, but almost every week it seems we have had to pull in at least 1 pug or more into our group. Heck one week I did coil with only 3 people having played with each other before and the rest was a total PUG. For most of us, it was our first time in Coil, and yet we made it all the way to turn 4. So sorry, gotta disagree with you. You just need to stop playing with bad people maybe?
