PSU is no issue i can upgrade that without issue i just can't crossfire because i never got a mobo with two PCIin 6months the 6850 will most likely be 120$s or less lol you might find it even more of a hassle to go up to even higher tier video card too if your powersupply isnt sufficient . think u need a 550watt for 6850 and a 700 for 6950? and on top of tht it needs to have a single 6pin connector thats part of the powersupply so it needs to be a certified powersupply which usually run 100+ for cheap ones and 150+ for name brand ones.

I have 2 5850s in CrossfireX and use Radeon Pro. I deleted my FFXIV Radeon Pro Profile when AMD released the FFXIV profile - I just keep Radeon Pro enabled as it unlocks some extra features on my cards the standard drivers don't. I also use Game Booster (Formally the free edition but I spend the 15 € on the Pro Edition). I'd really recommend you try the free edition, I noticed a big boost in reactive performance.
I now dance around everywhere at 55-60 fps and have next to 0 lag in response from my Gamepad, even in a busy Ul'dah and everything looks sweet. I have AA x4 DoF on, AO off (of course) and everything cranked up to max.
Abyss: Welcome to a Higher Quality of Nerding™
i run 2x 5770s crossfire and i could never get radeon pro to work. it always crashes ffxiv on startup. in the end, i just ended up playing ffxiv in fullscreen window'd so im not even taking advantage of crossfire...but even in window'd mode running 1 5770, im getting solid gameplay with settings of 1920x1080, 8 for general draw quality and 5 for background, dof/ao off. i would say lowerest 25ish fps and steady 30-40 fps even in group battles and a lot going on screen.
the only time i would stutter if say i was running and the game transistions somehow, like coming from outside and running into uldah. i think a faster HD like a SSD drive will aleviate some of that stuttering.
but anyways, if you try to run anything over 8 general draw, ur gonna need a beefed up computer like a i7 980x, a couple of 590s (don't quote me on this) cause for medium to high settings, this game is pretty optimized (dont quote me on this). anything above that, the scaling is so hard that just going from 8-9 or 9-10 general draw requires a ton more cpu/gpu (don't quote me on this) power.
wow thank you for response! ^^, I hope SE give us better performance with crossfire and also single gpu cards. Now I'm thinking in buy the 6950, if someone know about the performance with this VGA in FF please /tell lol
I got a HD 6950 and I run FFXIV on on the following settings:
Windowed -1920x1080
8x CSAA
General Drawing Quality - 10 (max)
Background Drawing Quality - 5 (max)
Shadows - Standard
Texture Quality - High (max)
Texture Filtering - Highest
AO and DoF - Off
With these I get 60fps out in the field and in Ul'dah 40-45fps. You can get a lot better fps though if you do this:

It basically gives the HD6950 the same performance as the more expensive HD6970 by unlocking the shaders. The HD6950 has two BIOS settings which you can switch between just by flicking a switch. One you can mod one you can't so I have the HD6970 settings on one (which did make a big difference) but I am running the standard BIOS atm as cooling does become and issue with FFXIV running them and fan noise was annoying so I am awaiting some extra cooling before I run the HD6970 BIOS full time with quieter fans.
what the website for Game Booster trying to find it but there so many site which you can download from i like the real websiteI have 2 5850s in CrossfireX and use Radeon Pro. thank you so much! that's the info i was searching for! n__n, now i'm sure i'll buy the 6950 and unlock it in the future ^^I got a HD 6950 and I run FFXIV on on the following settings:

*i'm going to ebay lol*
No prob, I just did a bit of research about the temp's it reaches as I was concerned because it was at around 85-90C when running FFXIV but it seems that is nothing to be worried about and is just normal so going to switch back to the HD6950 BIOS now. When I get a chance I will run the Benchmark if you want on both so you can see the difference I can't remember what it was exactly but it was pretty big.
*EDIT*
Got the benchmark scores here though I am sure it was over 5000+ with the unlock before so going to see what I messed up, but this is what I got so far running on high settings:

HD6950 Unlocked Shaders:

Also I forgot that I changed my BIOS back to a HD6950 and used this unlock method as it is supposed to be safer, but I haven't really heard any complaint's about using the HD6970 BIOS method really so go with whichever you want I guess. Thinking about it I am sure I got the 5000+ score with the HD6970 BIOS as that was the one I was running for a while until I did this switch so maybe that method does work better. Here is a link to the other unlock method that keeps the HD6950 BIOS which is supposed to put less strain on the card.

Yes FFXIV run around 75-95C with ATI there noting really you can do not if you want to waste money on more Fan or a new cooling system for your Video card. One of the dev team did say that SE is going to fix the issue with computers so i hoping it would lowers down the temp and allow us to play in higher setting. No prob, I just did a bit of research about the temp's it reaches as I was concerned because it was at around 85-90C when running FFXIV but it seems that is nothing to be worried about and is just normal so going to switch back to the HD6950 BIOS now. In beta1 i could not even play
Beta2 i could play pretty good but uncap FPS was bad
Beta3 was 60FPS
Then it away was 85-95C too patch 1.17 which made my ati drop 10-15C![]()
