    Terrible in game lag re-started

My FIXV became almost unplayable after the December update. Everything seemed to be lagging but most of all controlling any movement by mouse was impossible. Moving with the keyboard also had problems.

I could be running along and try and change direction and nothing happens, then the screen stutters and then jumps to the new direction. Attacking could also be a lottery waiting for skills to activate and using the menus was painful.

So, I just stopped playing until in April I tried again and all lag seemed to have gone away.

Then last week it returned and I feel I have tried everything to find the cause. Lowered graphics setting, monitored connects, all to no avail.

I live in South West Australia and am nearly the same time zone as Japan and my ping to the Japan is about 170. I have monitored my ping to the Japanese addresses using Pingplotter and there are no adverse drop outs of connection occurring. I play AION using German servers with no problems at all even though my connection is traveling at least 3 times as far.

    I have a homebuilt
    I7 860 stock speed.
    8gb Ram
    Win 7 64 bit
    Nvidia GTX 580 1.5gb

I use an ADSL2+ connection running at about 1015 upload/10400 kbps download

When running FFXIV my processor runs at about 18-25%, my graphics card runs at about 85% at a temp of 65-75 degress.

At the moment I just can not figure out what has changed to cause this. As I have said, it has worked much better in the past. At this stage my FFXIV is once again unplayable.

Any suggestions would be warmly received.

Did you enable the hardware mouse option they added?
I hear most people run at 2xMSAA. 4+ seems to really start lagging.
(The Devs said they have an entirely separate team atm dedicated to tweaking; even recoding the engine/game while they work on ps3 version; hopefully that helps many)
Drivers, System checks ..etc..you probably did that all already.
I hear there are port options now for the client with the config; never needed to mess with before so don't know if that helps.

You said you already lowered your graphics settings, but make absolutely sure that Ambient Occlusion is turned off.

You probably already did this as well, but reset your router, and consider re-installing FFXIV (doesn't take that long). You may even go as far as deleting the FFXIV Folder under your My Games directory. This will delete saved UI and character model data, which isn't that important - along with other information that is stored locally. All in all, this is still a shot in the dark.

You wouldn't be the first to suffer from a completely untraceable form of lag in FFXIV, sadly.

Finally found the culprit I hope. Seems my mouse Enable Acceleration was jammed on! Not something I normally use and I always have it OFF. But it was on and after turning it OFF I played and checked again and it was on AGAIN!

Finally removed drivers (Razer Naga) and reloaded them and it is now staying OFF.

Games is now much, much better.
