Once you get the gear its essentially worthless after you've gotten something better. When I came back here from ffxi had full af on mnk, got full darklight in the next 2 days, and no reason to keep AF so it's tossed.
Same with relic that i've obtained since gear is only good for that class/job (mnk/pugilist) in terms of darklight once you get relic body or something there is no reason to keep it, unless ofc SE decides to make some sorta of event thats class only, which I highly doubt.
This design is fairly uncomfortable to me because it's odd having to just straight up toss gear once you have a new item for the slot. I know this game isnt in ffxi but as a COR my af hat was the best QD hat for cor even at lv 75. Same goes for like NIN af body, was still the best TPing body for nin at 75 and even after that to a point depending on your gear.

I hate to break it to you, but that's 99% of MMOs at level cap. The only reason you are playing at 50 is to get better gear. When you get better gear, your old gear becomes useless. That's all there is to it, it's the absolute single focus and flaw of all games which are 100% item-based progression at level cap. Did you really expect it to not be useless? The game revolves around grinding a bunch at cap to get stuff, so you can get other stuff.. it'll eventually be worthless. That's the whole idea.I'm not sure where the impression that working hard for something means it will be forever relevant, because frankly it won't, and attempting to keep it so will just further handicap those who have started more recently and hurt the game itself (like XI's constant relic upgrades.. it absolutely stifled any weapon/shield upgrades indefinitely. It's a horrid design choice!)

I'm sorry the only other MMO I played was FFXI for almost 9 years and there was plenty of gear that was old and still viable at level cap 75-99 "Raja's Ring" for example up until recently was still awesome to have. Usually the much harder/grinding gear was still good even as level cap increased.I hate to break it to you, but that's 99% of MMOs at level cap. I never played other MMOs outside of FFXI/XIV so Idk how gear was, But in XI many jobs could use the same piece of gear. FFXIV I can't Share my MNK gear with my DRG,BRD,WAR,PLD and still do my job effectively. But in FFXI I could share the same gear for many jobs example Thaumas I could use it for my BLU,THF,NIN and I didn't have to do NNI to gear each job separately outside of Nares and Phorcys. The thing this game lack is sharing the same gear for multiple jobs.
The system is meant to take the gear we already used and is no longer of any use to us because we have already gotten better gear and then exchange it to help ease up the grind to gear for another job.
So yes I understand that once you get better gear you old gear is Crap, Garbage, Obsolete.
I don't even see how any type of system can "Handicap" a new player or hurt the system, if anything it would help a new player out in gearing up a new job once they can replace DL/Relic.

If the system was ever added and it was for gear that wasn't Spirit Bonded then that defeats the entire purpose of the exchange. If I buy a piece of Dark Light or Relic gear and a few weeks down the road, I get a new piece of relic or allagan to replace the gear I have then I would want to exchange the piece I just replaced.
The Exchange system would be pointless for non spirit bonded items only. Yes I understand that people make mistakes. One day I bought 30 Cooking Sherry cause of lag.
ALSO I didn't ask for an Exchange System to be Item for Item. I asked for a System to allow us to exchange our OLD USED gear for a certain percent of the total cost of the item. 20%-45% of the total item cost. I think there should be some grinding in gearing a new job, But a 20%-45% return on items that are no longer of any use would ease up the grind.
If an Exchange system was never Implemented I would be ok with that. I played FFXI for almost 9years and doing Dynamis once a week with no guarantee of any Relic gear I'm perfectly fine with what we have. I would just like the Grinding of gearing to be made a little easier and at the same time be able to do something with my old used gear beside sit in my retainer.

I would be satisfied with being able to store DL in my inn room...
I too wish there was something to do with the DL gear once you get a replacement for it.

I support this idea of exchanging items.
The grind for this stuff becomes ridiculously tedious and rather annoying. Plus it would also help people who want to play classes like Monk/Dragoon but cannot find a party easily because people want Bard/BLM for 95% of all tome spam runs.

Problem is that most MMOs had you play one class. WoW technically two specs of the same class, so less gear to manage. Point being that you were gearing one class in those other games. We are every class. Philo tomes are easy to farm, but I would like to exchange my useless DL from my WAR to something my SCH can use. The bigger issue is myth gear. Myth caps make it difficult to gear multiple classes. This is different from other MMOs where you just switch chars and willy nilly farm raids for more gear for that class as well.
We are single class locked on gearing unless super lucky on RNG drops. Which I am not. Ever.
I support this. Really good suggestion. I've been holding on to my DL hoping that SE implements just such a system.
