I agree with the OP. Leveling an alt is a chore -- even getting thaumaturge to 26 for swiftcast was a huge pain. It's not hard, it's not challenging (heck, it's not even particularly slow if you latch onto a fate or chain train), but it's BORING. Ideally in a MMO you should be able to level alts (alt classes in this case) by doing entirely different things. Level one character through quests / main story, another through sidequests, yet another through dungeons / guildhests, one through pvp (when available), etc etc. Right now the options just aren't there.
Which is the only thing that makes guildhests worth doing in the first place.
If the zone is dead and you can't fate grind, use the search ability, /sea whm 18 or w/e and ask people if they want to EXP Grind. Find yourself 7 people somewhere in the world and level up with them. Or grind leve's / dungeons until you get through that span.
Imo this game just needs to make the LFG system more intuitive so people know it exists and actually use it.
I miss the good ole EXP Flag from FFXI.....
People don't have to be in the zone to want to level, they might be in another zone. Or perhaps the zone that's active is not the one you are in. E.g. they could be in aleport still, or camp drybone area.
If people knew how to use the search command they would know that you can see where people are the heaviest zone wise for your level range and go level there.
Since you pretty much pass through the first 15 levels easily with no help from others, this really shouldn't ever be an issue. If this were FFXI and it was still using traditional 6 man parties for leveling all the time, then I would be concerned. But it's a nonissue in this game (and if you can't solo lowbie fates that are appropriate for your level, you're doing something wrong- hell many low level fates practically win themselves)What happens when your game evens out and low level zones are empty?
