Dude really? I mark targets on a PS3 as the party is AoE mobs during battle. Even if 4+ mobs are pulled on accident i'll mark 1-3 at a time just to give direction. Leadership and direction is what they are complaining to you about , and I wouldn't blame them for that at all. It is just instinct to me at this stage playing my WAR. Stop crying, man up, and take control of the battle. You are a tank. If you play a Warrior, your ancient ancestors from the skeletons of the Warrior's past, i'd assume, would have to be very displeased with you.

OP, I think it is sad you have all jobs leveled and posted something this utterly clueless.

You are correct that AOEing can produce high DPS in the event of a 3 or more pack pull.

What you forget is that doing this costs resources that will not be able to replenish fast enough before the next pull.

So while your AOE theory might look good on paper, the delay created by having to wait for resources does not work out unless you build the party specifically for this goal.

Even when built specifically for this goal, overall run speed will be compromised in the case of single target dps.

    Nope. I'll keep marking them.

Lol, because marking is so hard? You don't even need to mark them all at once, just mark the mob you're focusing on and when it's almost dead switch targets and mark that one. As a tank you are basically the leader and having the dps focus one mob at a time is more efficient then just targeting any of them and not all dps have aoes.

It's very inefficient to focus 1 mob trash mob down in AK vs aoeing them all.

So please stop asking for me to mark mobs.
Nothing wrong at all with marking even if it just to get an idea of order, irrelevant of whether you're going to aoe all down. It's also a good way to start paying attention to mobs and focus for future content, cycling through mobs with the targeting system, etc.. good to get used to, infact no harm at all but a positive thing for much tougher content in the future.

You could just...ask them to aoe.

I used to mark targets just to make tanking easier for me, but after getting rage of halone, I stopped marking after the first target, and now I don't mark any targets unless people ask me to. Why? Because I'm a lazy tank and it keeps me on my toes when I have slight competition going on with the DDs. Otherwise tanking would be as boring as playing my low level conjurer: "1, 2, 3... 1, 2, 3... 1, 2, 3..." Besides, it helps me learn how to keep multiple targets on me without relying too much on Flash.

But like I said, if people ask me to mark stuff, of course I will.

Ok, so i see it this way, if your doing AK and grabbing multiple packs and AOEing (fastest way) then your clearly WAY OVER GEARED for AK, as are your DPS so it does not matter (plus i'm sure anyone this overgeeared has done AK SOOOOO many times they know the kill order).

Now, as a bard, one of the better AOE classes, I can say that AOE isn't that great unless you have multiple packs, and if I am not 100% AOEing and use any damage coldowns, I will be tanking if I am not attacking the tanks primary target (or have yet to meet a tank this isn't true for, some do alot better than others, but i tank most trash unless some marking is done)

Now I refused to mark as I leveled WAR because I didnt see the issue with needing to mark, it wasn't till i leveled my BRD that I realized the importance of marking at least the first target since the rest of the pt do not get the agro lst till they actually attack the other mobs.

Its not like its hard to add a mark1 macro with tomahawk/shield lob so that the skill you use to pull with is making the first target, and by the time that one dies as a tank it shouldn't matter what the DPS select as their next target if your good at your job.
