Can enemies that give no EXP still drop items? (And other drop rate questions).

I need boar skin and it's fairly costly at the Market. I actually like farming for my materials, so I struck out towards The Bramble Patch as an 18 Lancer. I fight about a dozen boars and get three skins (from one boar).

I would take this as bad luck, but...

I fought the same dozen as a 35 Monk and got zippo all around. The same goes for the frogs above Vesper Bay and the goats around Drybone. Even as a lancer, which is closer to equal level, these things hardly drop anything.

When I move my 35 Monk to fight even-level toads in Raingully, the same problem persists. Hardly any drops, if any. If I get six skins in twice as many mobs, I feel lucky.

Thing is, I remember getting killer drops when I was a 20-ish Pugilist fighting goats.

So, is this all just really, really bad luck, am I doing something wrong or is there something fishy?

Bad luck I think, I was farming level 18 aldgoat so for skin last week on my blm and was getting them at pretty decent intervals

I have been farming HQ mats for all my crafting quests (currently on the lv 45 ones), and I have noticed some extreme streaks of drops and no drops. Same with HQ mats. Its just random.
Killed 25+ Toads with not a single drop, HQ or NQ. Went 1/2 on HQ Eft Tail. 85 Peiste skins until I got 2 HQ to drop.
Just at the mercy of the RNG. Good luck on your farming~!

My GF was trying to farm boar skin this morning, 20 kills nothing. She was doing it on lv 50 so no exp gain. We are fearing they did something to the drops. Its not good cause she was doing that to help get her LTW leveled up.

It was a fairly consistent drop on those mobs, much better then say aldgoats.

If you're getting shafted for a period of time (say 20 kills and no drops) you may consider running off and doing something else for a few minutes. It is well known that the RNG tends to get... stuck sometimes and result in some very improbable results. You may find yourself coming back later to 7 drops in a row in fact. The sucky RNG sometimes runs in our favor after all.

It would be nice to know how often a new seed is created for the RNG, or what triggers it, so we can try to get out of that rut.
