    HELL NO.

The last thing I want in this game is to have to carry around 40 situational sidegrade items like I did in XI.

    BLm alone:
    -Enfeebling set
    -Nuking set
-Items for day of the week
    -Items for weather
    -Resting set
    -Stoneskin set
    -Stun set (fast cast)
    -etc.

As it stands the game isn't designed this way either, and never will be, seeing as we can't swap gear mid combat.

I have a spiritbind set of gear on my main, and my highest tier gear, and that is plenty of gearsets for me TYVM.

The only problem I have with the current iLevel gear is i feel it is scaled to high. iLevel 90 gear at level 50 which if based on all the gear you get before hitting 50 would mean that this is the equivalent to what average gear for a level 90 would be is way to high. They should have toned it down and had a max iLevel of 55 or 60 at the most at this point in the game for gear and adjusted the gear accordingly.

Will iLevel 90 gear really last me until I am level 90 or will I be getting iLevel 200+ gear by then.

Alright, honestly it's not the ilvl thing that bothers me, it's just how boring gear is. I haven't played in a week just because DL and AF2 and Allagan stuff is just so boring, there's no thrill to collecting it. Even 1.0 had traits on gear. Ifirt's weapons proc'd fire damage and had high base power while Moogle's weapons proc'd HP/MP regen and had high +ACC

Now it's just 'Ifirt's weapon is ilvl 60, and Moogle's weapon is ilvl 70 lol'

What he said, clearly the ARR Dev team has decided on which path to take which is a bit disheartening but I wish they could so something like the Higher your ilvl the more Job Specific bonuses you get.

Like take your combined ilvl for AF Armor and have that be the baseline, you now have bonuses conferred to various abilities and spells and it won't punish you for moving ahead of AF armor because as long as you're ilvl is above the ilvl of AF armor then you have those traits still activated. It will allow for more subtler job specific bonuses without necessitating people to stick with a piece of ilvl gear that is lower than ilvl because it enhances Defiance to have X amount of Damage Reduction added (as a random example) maybe have the Af2 gear set be another threshold for even more bonuses thus allowing even Af2 and Allagan to intermingle. Allow specific items to give a bonus trait ahead of its ilvl but have that trait be offered with a higher ilvl.

Item level has nothing to do with character level. Its merely a system to separate items into tiers. As new items are added they are placed into an existing tier or a new tier is created if they are more powerful. There are some gaps in iLevel right now that they can use for side content/quest gear when level cap is increased for example.

We know it's a system for tiering but the scaling is all messed up. Because when you're level five and putting on level five required items they're iLVL5. This doesn't start to change until you get to the high 40s and then it just goes completely out of the window.

I'm curious about the same thing AlexiaKidd is; how will iLVL scaling work when a level cap comes out? Is your iLVL90/reqLVL50 Allagan stuff going to be useless compared to iLVL60/reqLVL60 gear or will it stay competitive up until iLVL90/reqLVL 90?

They're probably going to do it in a similar style to other MMOs where the top-end blue/purple gear from the previous level cap will be comparable to the green gears you'll get by the next level cap, or something like that. Whatever the case its likely your best gear right now will be at best mid-tier when they raise the level cap.

Personally I wouldn't be too concerned with that though, the level cap's probably not going to rise until an expansion which probably won't be for another 9+ months, at least.

So you don't want there to be multiple sets of gear like that guy was saying.....and yet you want gear to do different things so you still have to lug around a lot of different sets/weps? Ya no, you want Guild Wars go play GW, do not drag that into this. Making any gear situational where everything has the same stats but may or may not be better in certain situations requires everyone to lug everything around just to get the best increase for each fight.

Like it or not mmos have evolved past that, people like seeing an actual increase over their current gear when switching to something else. You say you do not see an increase in getting gear over what you have but I can guarantee you if you actually worked on it at all you'd see that increase. I guess however it's too hard to see it though when you already skipped over most of the content you'd need said gear for by being carried towards the biggest increase you can get(relic, because yes your gear/single max lvl says a lot on that).
