    Lahabrea? [spoilers]

    Main story spoiler-

How is it possible that Thancred is an Ascian overlord, Lahabrea? He was able to invoke by prayer one of the Twelve during the Battle of Carteneau (as depicted in the opening cutscene).

I was operating under the assumption that Ascians channel some kind of dark side of aether, and wouldn't be as attuned to the planet/the Twelve as other people are. It just seems odd that the Twelve, who rarely respond at all, would even tolerate the presence of someone such as Thancred (i.e. Lahabrea), let alone respond to his prayer.

Is this resolved later in the story?

I dont really get it. Maybe I missed something

Lahabrea possessed Thancred ( remained masked) and did Lahabrea's bidding.

Was there any point in all this ? Couldnt he have just done it all w/o involving Thancred

That's a good question, really, considering the way it played out in cutscenes. Lahabrea doesn't look any different when he's possessing Thancred than he does when he's not possessing Thancred. With the mask on, he looks the same before possessing Thancred, during Thancred's possession, and after Thancred is freed.

Ascians aren't physical beings, so I think the best explanation is that when we see Not-Thancred-Lahabrea, he's simply possessing other Midlander Hyurs. Maybe, when it comes to possessing people, he's just got a "type." I'm not really sure. That part bothers me.

What I don't understand is this: was Thancred possessed the entire time and just had 'episodes' where Lahabrea took over, or what?

Someone who started in Ul'dah should have a better grasp of when Thancred got possessed. Knowing when Thancred was tasked with investigating the Ascians would help too.

I would like to think that it happened after we fought the Gargoyle or after Ifrit and before we saw Lahabrea in Toto-Rak.

Or we could just look for the necklace that I always failed to notice. I took a quick look, and it looks like it appears for the first time when we are tasked with investigating the Sylphs. I had a good hunch after all.

He doesn't mind us conducting trials so close to his bazaar, so long as he's properly compensated... Yes, Portus, we pay him in sorcery-blasted bird flesh. - Cocobygo
