The game is still very young. It takes time for FCs to shake out. The smaller ones will disband and the bigger ones will pick up the some of the remaining members. Right now the market is flooded with FCs most will fall to the wayside and the ones that do not will emerge stronger. Give it time (I know, standard answer for everything).

Why is this beginning to be tossed back into the laps of the FC? Try to understand, I love to "help" people in my FC get done dungoens or whatnot from time to time since it is nice to help people that you actually can get to know. On the same note, if you are joining a FC with teh expectation hat they are going to be there every time you want to run a dungeon please don't join mine. People join FCs then immediately feel like they did such a wonderful favor by joining that they have some type of entitlement to my time. The people who run FCs are people too, the precept of the FC is a social situation where players have easy and reliable access to each other. This does not mean you get spam the thank GM for ak runs.

he truth is, a fc and a linkshell do the exact same thing except, there is a buff that can be applied to a level 5 FC and there is an associated tag.

Our FC has Coil groups, but for awhile too many people in the FC were at earlier stages of progression, so the really ambitious people used shout groups to do Coil as a result.

The problems and restrictions at launch and continuing ever since has meant that 50% of my friends quit the game and those that remain are separated by servers, this continues with the restrictions put on the free transfers. The only way those that remain can get together and form a FC with friends is to wait and hope for less restricted payed transfers. Otherwise joining a FC with complete strangers how is that different from Puging. I talk to my friends on facebook and run instances with random players. I do make new friends and that's what friends list is for but I can't commit to a FC until I know that where I am is where I will be in a months time and very few people in my experience have decided that.

You join one and notice it has hundreds of ppl in it, but if you search the members list you'll notice that 90% are inactive characters that have been offline for more than 15 days.

If you ask FC members to do Primals, CM or AK runs they either don't reply or say they're too busy.

A great FC needs to have active members, it needs to have extra baggage like inactive members to be dismissed from the company, and everyone needs to be able to lend a helping hand whenever they can. It's true that sometimes ppl are busy, but sometimes people are just unwilling to do something from which they will have no reward. Charity is not supposed to leave you with anything.

Some people know how hard it is to find a good FC, so they rather just pug everything and get some progress done, rather than to wait forever for their FC to do anything at all.
    Pretty much this.

There are many reasons. Time constraints, not wanting to play on a schedule, being on a FC that's too far ahead or too far behind, just wanting to do content on a random whim and having no one on FC at that time, not being able to join a true endgame FC due to timezone difference / not finding one that suits you / not getting along with people / not being good / geared enough, etc. There are plenty of reason for people to PUG.

Heck, personally, I'm on a FC but still have to PUG T1 Coil every week, because in my FC people are either already doing it with a set group / different timezone or not on Coil level yet. Been trying to start a Coil group on it tho. And while I do admit that I've considered checking endgame FCs, I still think that it's better to just PUG stuff my current FC doesn't run frequently than leaving a group of friends that's sticking up together since 1.0 and having to look for an endgame oriented FC that may or may not have nice people that I may or may not get along with.

For me, the main reason for prefering PUGs is that no PUG has ever asked me to go to their web site, fill out an application, and sit through an interview before joining the group. FC's need to get over themselves and stop being so serious.

I was in big guilds in EQ/WoW...10 years ago..some people grow up and put on big boy pants and have other responsibilities outside of gaming. Not everyone wants to be tied to a free company and be on a schedule for logging in.
