Sorry, I'm not buying that whole "FFXIV was released too early" thing. Tanaka's vision of the game is/was incompatible with what the huge majority of MMO players are looking for. There are dozens upon dozens of concepts in this game that are fundamentally broken, unscalable, and difficult to work with; and as a director, HE'S the one who had the final say in what went into the game and what didn't. Another two years of development under Tanaka would not have made this game much better; it would have been mediocre at best.

Tanaka was the Producer not Director. Komoto was the director.

Anyone that touched any form of game development let alone program design can tell you the game was pushed out far too sooner than it should have been. There were very, very common errors that aren't found in any of SE's offline games because they're released at the time they should be released.

I can guarantee any form of business the boss has the ultimate say so on what happens - It's not just in the media industry.

If we're talking about visions, Tanaka's vision was to make a solo friendly MMO instead of revamping XI to fit that style, which correct me if I'm wrong, but players these days only care for solo content and casual friendliness?
