It is mainly a lack of communication and wada pretty much forcing the game out way too soon. Tanaka may have been the producer/director, but he didn't want the game out when it was which is why he asked media to hold off on reviewing.

Exactly. FFXIV should have never been released to soon, and now they are paying dearly for this. I'm hoping the won't ever forget this mess in the future. Rushing to release the game is suicide for not only the game itself, but reputation for the company that created it, Especially if it's their flagship title such as FFXIV.

I personally think SE should first licence the FF name to another small company to develop said game.

To be fair, I'm mostly railing against the push to social networking platforms than the smartphone market. Social games aren't games, they're viruses wrapped in a Skinner Box and given a shiny coat of paint designed to distract you from the fact that all you're doing is clicking on random shit, buying worthless virtual currency, and spamming the shit out of your friends' timelines.

iOS/Droid games can be fine (I have FFIII on my iPhone), but the big sellers there are almost exclusively casual fare on the level of Angry Birds or Cut The Rope.

Ideally, I'd like to see SE get back to its roots with the FF series and develop a game that's more like their SNES-era or PS1-era games than most of the shit they've put out in the last decade.

They're open (just in which party members you can end up with alone), which is why it would make more sense with an RS theme than FF theme.

I want to see SE make an open world fantasy game in the same vein as Oblivion or Fallout but with a Final Fantasy theme. I doubt it would happen, but i think it would be awesome.

That'd be way too amazing to happen. Your best bet would be to mod one of the above to a Final Fantasy-inspired RPG.

Better yet, wait for Skyrim to come out, then do it.
