Hey everyone,

I'm what some would refer to as a n0000b lol. Well, I've got a few questions that I would appreciate an answer to.

1. My main started as a THM with the intentions of becoming a BLM but now I'm sure I want to become a SMN, is it still possible to make him a SMN? How so? (SMN is summoner, right? Lol)

2. Is it possible to edit character appearance after character creation?

3. Could one character assume every job in the game?

4. At what level do raids start to come in?

5. Are 8 sets of hot bars necessary?

6. Is there a cap on how many characters can be created?

7. How long would it take one to become level 50? (I'm not in a hurry, just curious)

8. Which job is least common yet important?

9. Can 1 character assume every role? Dps, tank, healer, troll.

10. What job would be considered which role?

11. Are these too many questions? Lol :P

one character can be every class in game so yes you are fine to become a summoner you will need an arcanist to level 30 and a thurmatarge to level 15 at that point you will get a quest from the arcanist guy for your summoner job.

2. Is it possible to edit character appearance after character creation?

Yes but currently only through a potion awarded for paying your first month's subscription called fantasia and it is single use.

3. Could one character assume every job in the game?

4. At what level do raids start to come in?

Raids are what most mmo's count as end game so level 50 but if you are talking about dungeons and other group content comes in at level 10 for guild hests like practise groups and around level 15-17 you get your first 3 propper dungeons.

5. Are 8 sets of hot bars necessary?

I personally use 7 lol but I have a lot of different things on em all and only have 48 of them as keybinds :P

6. Is there a cap on how many characters can be created?

Currently 8 per server total 40 characters.

7. How long would it take one to become level 50? (I'm not in a hurry, just curious)

It all depends from what I have heard you can do it in a couple of weeks by fate grinding and just concentrating on 1 job personally I am taking my time and doing as much as I can at once.

8. Which job is least common yet important?

Tanks and healers are scarce but it is like that in most mmo's DD are normally the higher population.

9. Can 1 character assume every role? Dps, tank, healer, troll.

???? can you elaborate? do you mean which of the 9 jobs plays which roles?

1. Any one character can be every class and job, just not at the same time. You'll need to work on each class individually. When you get a class to 30, and have it's secondary prerequisite class at 15 or higher, you can do the quest to start on that class's respective job (THM goes to BLM for example). Upon completing that quest, you're given a Soul Gem for your new job, equipping or de-equipping it changes you into and out of that job. You can do this for every class available.

2. Yes, but only once at the moment. You have to pay for a 30 day subscription, and you'll get two veteran rewards, one of which being a Fantasia potion that allows you to recreate your character once. Be advised that you can't purchase a subscription until after your free trial period has ended. No, you can't cancel the trial. I tried.

3. Yes.

4. Your first accessible dungeon is at level 15, in the main story quests (Sastasha).

5. I wouldn't think so, those are just there to give you an overabundance of space. But I only use as little as possible, it gets confusing if you have too many (I'm speaking from a PS3 perspective).

6. That depends on your subscription. Free trials only get two per World, not sure about total. Entrys get 1 per world, maximum of 8 in total. Standards get 8 per world, 40 in total.

7. I'll let someone else answer this, though I've heard some people say it only took them a few days, but that's hardcore players.

8. This seems to vary from server to server, I would think.

9. No, you only have one role depending on your class. And please don't troll.

DPS - Pugilist/Monk, Lancer/Dragoon, Thaumaturge/Black Mage, Arcanist/Summoner, Archer/Bard
Healer - Conjurer/White Mage, Scholar (alternative Arcanist job to Summoner)

Though I am not far from complete noob myself, I can answer a few of your questions.

Yes, you can. Just pick up the arcanist class and get that to level 30. The second requirement is thm level 15.

2. Is it possible to edit character appearance after character creation?
Apparently they will be putting this in game in a future update. It should include changing things like hairstyles, scars, and generally cosmetic features. Right now, if you subscribe for enough time, one of the bonuses is one bottle of fantasia, which allows you to change everything about your character (including gender and race, I believe), but leaves you with the same name.


3. Could one character assume every job in the game?
Yes. There's really no need to make other characters.

4. At what level do raids start to come in?
About level 17-20 iirc you start getting 4-man instances. If you follow the main story quests, you will get get to them.
5. Are 8 sets of hot bars necessary?

Depending on the subscription you choose, it is either 1 per server or 8 per server.

This depends so much on your play style and time that it is hard to say. I have heard of people who got to 50 in less than 2 weeks.

Yup! By switching class/jobs, which can be done by equiping the main hand weapon for the relevant class, and there is a nice system for equipment sets that allows you to switch all equips at the click of a button. Trolls are a special case though. Troll can be equipped while any class...including forum rat

Bard is a DPS but it gets some songs for support, two of which restore MP or TP.

I'd avoid referring to the role as troll. Here, a troll carries the same meaning it does on most of the internet: An individual who purposely goads and antagonizes people in the hopes of making them angry. For instance, someone who joins a dungeon as a tank (The party literally cannot proceed without him) then proceeds to AFK so the rest of the party is forced to quit, endure a 15 minute lockout, and re-queue.

I've never heard the word 'troll' used as a player role in a party before - by the description I've more heard the term 'mana battery' used (which I heard a few times used in FFXI). Such a role is not really needed given the fact players have natural HP and MP regeneration (even in battle, although it regenerates more slowly than when you're in 'passive' mode).

ARR officially has just the three 'trinity' roles of tank, healer and damage dealer ('DD'). Anything that would have been another role (support/debuff etc), or hybrid classes (like CNJ and ACN) are instead listed as one of these three main roles.

Incidentally you can tell which role a class or Job fits into by simply looking at your character name in the party list in the top corner of the screen - the class icon beside your character's name is colour-coded by role - tanks are blue, healers green and damage dealers red.
