GPU Driver crashing and then getting back to normal...

So when I am ingame every minute my PC freezes for few seconds then the screen goes black and suddenly it all goes back to normal, but then a message screen pops up and tell me the graphic driver has stopped but restarted and now it's ok. Anyone having this problem, it only happens while in FFXIV, I have a 7850 AMD card, I73550k processor and stuff. Maybe some options in the game's system preferences?

Please help, I can't even play, it's annoying

Have you tried reinstalling the latest driver for the card? Is the card new or recently installed?

There are a few things that could be wrong. The card may be bad, or going bad. Your drivers may be corrupted. Your power supply may be going bad, or is not powerful enough to support your needs. The issue is definitely GPU related if the screen goes black and then returns to normal. That is what happens when the GPU crashes.

It's new, i thought of that too but the fact is it only happens while in FFXIV, i've played BF4's beta and no problems at all, I think is something in the game's graphic prefrences that it's not working right...

(i've reinstalled the graphic drivers and stuff and same sh*t)

PD: First time I've played 4 hours straight and no problem, then I "touched" the graphic preferences of the game, maybe was that, don't know, I'll update as soon as I have some answer..

I have this exact issue with the same card. Because I was not able to get a replacement for the card itself I just underclocked it to make the problem go away.

Sadly. In my case I underclocked it by about 40%. Its stable now, but I wish I got an Nvidia instead as I have never had an issues like this with Nvidia.

Make sure to check your PC temps and fans! I had this same issue with my 7770 AMD card and the fixes I found via google like underclocking did not work. I tracked down the issue to my CPU. I had it overclocked and it was adding a good bit of extra heat, not enough to shut down the PC, but enough to cause the video card to overheat and crash. I changed some power saving settings in the BIOS and now no longer get the driver crashes. My PC has 2 options for the CPU:

    1. run all 4 cores at a single speed ex: 4ghz
    2. run all 4 cores at a single lower speed (ex: 3.8ghz), but when a program that use a lot of CPU like FFXIV is detected, it will switch to 4ghz but only in a 2-core mode. The other 2 cores are shut off to lower the heat output.

I was running it at #1 and kept getting the driver crashes, but after switching to #2, they stopped. Apparently that reduced the temps enough so the card stopped crashing. Some of you may want to run your PCs with case covers off for a session to see if you still get the crash. If they stop, then you may have a heat issue.
