that guy smells like a troll, ppl regardless of language won`t do that unless he did something or is just lying.I can't blame them to be honest. I'm American myself, and I see many English speaking players being disrespectful on the chat in the game. For the record though, I haven't run into any texts like the one you posted so far. The Japanese on my server (Ultima at this point in time) don't seem to mind playing with Western players. Only been playing FFXIV since August, so I can't speak 100% on the topic though, just giving my experience so far.
Just some bad apples, thats all. Nothing special that you get d-bag tanks, d-bags come in all shapes and languages just as often.
People get anal and rude in mindnumbingly easy places like CM even, no matter what class it is, even when things move on at a nice pace. I find it very silly when people like ken00 praise the JP community and shoot down the english community as a whole. If you ken00 said american I would agree slightly more with you, since their competative mentality is slightly more extreme than european. Even everyday life is a competition to many americans, towards their neighbors, co-workers etc. Who earns the most, who has the highest education or the sexiest wife/gf etc etc.

They can act this way because there are so few of them. They have that special feeling that we NEED them - which we do. So they can threat people the way the want.
It's is not really a tank menatlity thing. It's just the English culture that people are arseholes.
Or just people bringing real life Sh*ts into the game.
well... this post sounded like bullshit from the first topic... and i am definitely not reading all the posts of it. But let me put it in a way, if by lead u mean tank should be the one running ahead of team and pulling mobs, then yeah tank should be the leader that is their job pull stuff get enmity and tank it. If u are talking about tank telling people how they should do something, I would take that as a suggestion if u disagree with the strategy propose a new one, some people do stuff different ways. Real problem is there are d-bags in game , they won't listen to what anybody says and will want stuff done their way and they don't have a specific class. I can also say, as a tank I notice that some people specially rng dps get pissed if i try to do a ready check before starting a fight or if i don't run to the next group of mobs right away, some even get pissed when i don't mark mobs on trash fights even though they aren't actually hitting the marked mob when I mark it, so yeah I would say there is plenty of blame to cast around in "bad groups" and say it is tank mentality just looks like a little short-sighted.
This is one of the things I enjoyed most about Age of Conan.
If someone was being an unreasonable douchenozzle, I would drop party in the middle of a dungeon and PK them then and there.
PvE games let players get away with too much. There's almost zero accountability.
Personally, I can see why some tanks get upset. It is quite annoying to have a parrot on your shoulder trying to dictate your every move. Giving out tips is fine but if you're going to try to tell me how to play throughout the entire run, I'm not going to be happy.
Basically, if you think you know how a tank should be played, be a tank. Otherwise, leave the tank to do his job or leave the party and find another with a tank who plays in a way that makes you happy.
Honestly, I've bumped into more self righteous pricks that arent tanks. DPSer can be the worst d-bags at times, often voicing their opinion about the "bad tank".
They dont understand that this isnt your fluffy easy happy-go-lucky-braindead tank game like WoW and every other WoW type trinity MMO. You dont have a instant i-win taunt button in this game, if you dont let the tank get to build aggro before opening up, then the risk is that the tank will have a hard time getting aggro back. Provoke, flash and all other enmity skills do just that, build enmity, they wont force the target to attack you for x-seconds so you can build hate, or fill the enmity meter to 100%.
I've seen plenty of bad dps just stand there and blast blast blast after the tank has lost aggro due to premature dpsing. Then the dps throws a fit.
I'm a mellow tank, but I wont take shit from some numbnut dps that cant handle his enmity and blaming me.

Let me put it this way. Early game, and I am talking about August and early September, the bad attitude comes from tanks. This is because these pricks thought that they owned the game or something because of their privilegded position of getting into dungeons everytime.
Now in October, the bad attitude is mostly end game. The one thing that is incredibly bad for this game, is the massive amount of toxidity in end game situations. Anything that needs a level 50 done, you won't believe the high level of immaturity, douchebaggery, idiocy, snot monkeyness, trollish behaviour, teenage arrogance that some people exhibit. And it is not just tanks either. It could come from literally any job. The end game for ff14 is really really toxic.
You can get shit over literally nothing.
Well I dont know about that. I never sensed any bad behavior in the beginning the times I ran dungeons with other people tanking. I also dont know about priviledged position really. It's a trinity game, very few people play tanks. People tend to pick the easy route a.k.a the dps classes, the ones that put the least preasure on the player. In this game, tanking has come to a new level, without the instant aggro skills of other games. It's only the community that makes the tanks seem more priviledged, because there are too many dps out there. If a chunk of those dps would roll tanks, the queues would get shorter across the board. If you want instant or close to instant queues, roll a tank or a healer.
So the question is, who is most priviledged, the guy with instant queue working his ass off for the group or the guy with a 15-30min queue hanging in the back dealing damage without a care in the world?

People thrive off of negativity and the internet is a haven for it. Look up "negativity bias". Recognize it for what it is and take steps to overcome it. If you behave as a paragon of virtue and don't let the toxicity get you down and infect your being, you can help others overcome it as well....you won't believe the high level of immaturity, douchebaggery, idiocy, snot monkeyness, trollish behaviour, teenage arrogance that some people exhibit. And it is not just tanks either. It could come from literally any job. The end game for ff14 is really really toxic.
