I never really rage against others, but I have played with a few d-bags throughout my tanking career. I can usually just shrug my shoulders and move on if people start to flame me for making a mistake (if I did it, I'll happily admit it and attempt to correct it next time). However, the only people that seem to get instantly right under my skin are the people who tell you step by step the ONLY way to beat this one specific fight and then do not even attempt to follow their own plan and die because of it.......over and over again.

Watching a video on youtube may "enlighten" you, but it definitly doesn't make you an expert in these situations. I take my tanking seriously and honestly I'm a very nice guy, but when you tell me the ONLY way to do something like you are a pro who could do it in their sleep and then you die early on because you didnt take your own advice? Come on man, just admit you've no clue what youre doing. It's then that the rage stops to boil over for me.

Honestly the only thing I ever say in party chat is "nailed it" when people die to aoes or get repelled off the wall.

my i love being a tank, and i love the players that ive met, very few times have i run into these power trippers (albeit since 2.0 ive ONLY run tank) but i've also been hugely humble and explained instantly that as a tank during a boss battle, i cant see most of whats going on, i see a GIGANTIC body in my face, and have to focus on keeping that on me, cuz if it leaves, everyone else dies.. so as a bunch of people said the power is intoxicating

but if we can learn to appreciate the other members, we all learn that its an equal part, im just as important as the DPS and the DD and the buffer and the healer. if not, there wouldn't be any reason to have them.

    I love being a tank~

As many others have said, tanks are the integral part of the group. Every ounce of weight rests on their shoulders. If you forget to pop 1 cooldown and die because of it, everyone knows. If you lose aggro to a DPS that doesn't care about threat meters, its not his fault, it's the crappy tanks fault. If you don't pull monsters in the most perfect form every time, people bicker and moan. If you aren't on top of your game 100% of the time, people take notice, and they complain.

Tanks are by far the most stressful jobs out there and are sorely unappreciated. After months of gritting your teeth through everything, you tend to become short tempered. Some people don't, most people do.

I personally feel that if people expect me to play at 100% all of the time, then it is just as fair for me to expect it of them. If I'm playing with friends and I know I'm in a relaxed environment, entirely different story. But I swear to God if one of you pubs pulls aggro...

i play with a friend, she was the whm and recently she did begin to level up the gld for test. she have understand why i was pesting against dps and now understand.

maybe we must force every dps to try tank for they understand a bit what it is when people don't look them aggro meter.

As a Tank in FFXI, WoW and now also ARR I can tell you several reasons why a Tank might appear like a d-bag.

Something goes wrong leading to a wipe, its the tanks fault.
The Ranger/Hunter/Archer dies, its the tanks fault.
The BLM/Warlock/any DPS Magic Class in ARR dies, its the tanks faul.
Someone runs somewhere alone gets beaten to a pulp in a second, its the tanks fault.
Someone pulls a group of enemies and enganges without the tank to produce a BIT of hate and dies, its the tanks fault.
Someone dies because the healer is AFK, its the tanks fault.

So no matter why and who messed up, a lot of people point at the tank. Now try and stay friendly throught all those times. Why tanks act like they are the boss, lets face it, most of the time they are with the healer on same level of command. You don't like the attitude of Tanks you play with? Become a Tank yourself, you don't want to? Now WHY is that?

This is why I tend to group up only with friends. If things go wrong, we laugh it off and try again.

But... there are times when you are in the DF/PUGs and there is 1 or 2 others in the group that do stupid things (especially when it's intentionally done) and that starts to eat away at your soul until you want to rage at them. The good thing is, you can just shout at the screen and get back to trying to control the situation. Or leave, take a few minutes and just move on with things. It's a game in the end, and isn't worth stressing over. Why some people feel the need to type their rage out at people, I have no idea. It rarely helps anyone.

it was relevant to the first paragraph of the second scenario, just a little thing i found.

i did see the other post though, the tank was an ass. there is nothing more to say.

he needs to learn how healing works before trying to telling someone to "learn their role."

as a tank i like to keep my party alive, if i am having trouble keeping hate on enemies i would rather have a healer or BLM sleep them to reduce the burden (this is as a paladin of course, i'm pretty sure warriors have a better time AOE tanking). i feel that if someone pulls a mob away from me and said mob's HP is above half, i have failed and will rush to try to get it's attention.

ive had mean people run with me, i have had nice people. during my first run at longstop i had a dps that was hostile to me to an extent, but he helped me better learn my role. i have had healers that are obsessed with AOE heals and make my job tough, i have had dps that acted independently. even then i do my best to keep hate, as i have found it that the dungeon progresses quicker if i make sure that i am the center of every single mob's attention and DPS/healer isn't dying because they pulled something off of me.

Fucking this!^^ My same mentality as a tank and i respect you for it dude. We do shoulder responsibility of making sure no harm comes to the group.

Thats when the DBag comes out.
And every group after that follows int he same steps (Which is literally 90% of groups) tanks tend to develop a short fuse.
People arnt pricks for no reason, something OTHER people do causes it to happen.
I almost got like this when i realized, i just needed a short break. After almost a week of shooting people in the face on BL2, i feel great and ready to kiss/hug all the douche bags ^_^.
Also i think only certain things in dungeons need tank direction. Other than making sure the group knows the dungeon, and setting the kill order. We dont need to do much else. Its good to leave some freedom for the group. Let them make their own choices (as long as it doesnt harm the group). Remember, this is a game and were all here to have fun and kick deity ass.

PS. Shooting people in the face is a very relaxing activity. If your feeling stress from the game, take a short break, maybe a day or 2.

I agree, thats probably why they set CNJ as the alt for PLDs. All tanks should try healing a few low level dungeons to see it from a different perspective. You'll be a better tank because of it. Especially knowing that healers can't heal you until every mob tastes some of our Flash. I mean as obvious as it is. It really hits home from a healer's perspective.

In FFXI I can't count on both hands the number of times I was looking for a party and saw <Looking for members><Japanese><German><French><Okay><English><No Thanks>. Yet not once did I see the reverse. Perhaps it was simply because the game was released years earlier in Japan but somehow I doubt this is the sole contributing factor.

Of the 5-10 times I did manage to somehow find myself in an all <Japanese> party in FFXI 70-95% of the time I could have sworn I was being laughed at. Lengthy discussions without using any auto translate would be followed by <insert my name here> and lots of W's. Is that not equivalent to saying, lmao what a fuking noob!? Look at this horrible English player, lmfao 笑笑笑笑笑笑笑笑笑笑笑笑笑笑笑笑笑笑笑笑笑笑笑?

Give me a break. Assholes belong to every language and dialect. Don't insult the entire English speaking population by insinuating that we are somehow inferior to Japanese speakers. Way to alienate over a billion people with one comment.

lol my FC is jap and we got an american player and the other members are still very helpful.
and did i say theres no d-bags in jap. community? read my post again lol.
and did i say all english speaking players are d-bags? read that again too.
