Tanks do get a lot of crap, healers probably second most, and barely seem to hear from too many DPS. I'm a healer and I don't mind when a Tank takes control of the situation. I don't expect it, but I feel they are in charge. With that being said, I don't like when tanks get pissed off if a party member does something different than they are used to. As a healer in endgame, every tank seems to need to be healed in a different way. There are times when I can spam cure II on a tank and never pull hate, and then there are times where a single cure will give me instant threat, and then I get bitched at for overhealing or what not. I have to cater my healing to the tank and his ability to keep aggro. I don't overheal though, and I just hate getting bitched at for pulling hate. Cause 99% of the time its either I pull hate by casting or I let the tank die.

As a tank I never had the God complex or became shitty with anyone but I have ran into "special" DPS who pull any and everything even when we don't need to kill it or act like they know everything and look down on others.

The only thing that really plucks my nerves is when 3 members in the party are attacking 1mob and one lone DPS is attacking 2 mob, pulls hate then runs in circles with it casting AoE by the healer or BLM. This was annoying as a healer too cuz now I'm stuck healing the tank and the squishy DPS.

My other experience was on 2 Castrum runs I had impatient SCHs who would pull the boss before either of us tanks could come out of the annoying cut scenes. I had a WHM rage quit cuz nobody dodged the AoE in Cutters Cry. I honestly couldn't see it myself once the blm spells and DPS effects start flying I can't see sometimes. I always have fun as a tank and I love it, I'm always willing to listen to new strategies cuz I don't know it all and I love a good disaster dungeon.

It seems my experience is a bit different here but out of 100s of DF runs, I've only ran into a handful of complete assholes. I'm inclined to believe that the majority of the problems people run into partially stem from the attitudes that they themselves bring into the party. How many parties start up and no one says hey? Or end without anyone saying good run/thanks for the party? How many people on here think it's the other guys fault, without making any effort of their own to be friendly from the get-go?

That's why I make sure to always start a run with some sort of greeting, I mean if you're a tank and consider yourself the "leader" of the party, then isn't it important for the "leader" to set the mood and lead by example? It's all about perspective imo, come in with a friendly demeanor and more often than not, it'll rub off. And from my experiences over the 11~ years I've been tanking, a little friendliness at the start can go a long way =D.

As a tank and a DPS (never a healer!) I find it is DPS that are the worst. I also notice DPS tend to be the least engaged with their surroundings, probably because of the role of tanks and healers essentially controlling the life of the party - HP values.

Tanks tend to be the better and more commanding leaders, but the DPS are the ones with outrageous expectations.

The reason I became a tank was my experience in world of warcraft and the gearscore crowd (who were often DPS'ers looking for a way to flex their ability to acquire in-game items as an extension of their personal value). I wanted to be able to run people through dungeons who actually still needed the gear that dropped, and tanking it myself was the easiest way to do that. I am seeing some of that in this game and it saddens me that most MMO's seem to cater to that crowd these days.

The majority of us are bitter because we're sick of the crap we have to deal with from DD and healers. DD engaging before the tank and complaining about losing threat. DD not AoEing on 3+ mob pulls. DD not being able to take criticism without crapping blood. DD not knowing which targets have priority. I will say this though; people also need to remember that FFXIV:ARR carries people to 50 on a silver platter so you will be getting fresh 50s who have absolutely no idea how to do their job because all they had to do was spam AoEs for 50 levels. There is a lot of reason why tanks are jerks but mostly it's because we are sick of everyone else being jerks/ignorant. Atleast I am, however I'm never rude. I normally just say why I'm leaving then leave.

Man I have no idea as to what makes a good tank or a bad one, but the instances I've been in (only a total of four), and everytime we've wiped people owned up to their mistakes and we tried it again. But i still don't know what the hell I'm doing so hopefully that changes by 50

You learn as you go, and if you're doing something wrong (this will happen to all of us), hopefully someone will constructively correct you. For instance, I had no idea how the enmity on Regen worked until maybe five levels after I had gotten it... once it was explained to me, everything became clear and things became much smoother for everyone. For people willing to listen and learn, all it takes is a nudge in the right direction.
