As a tank, I'm not a douche unless someone else is a douche.

But the problem with 14 as I've noticed personally is that it feels like the tanks have to do all the work. Personally I'm not a big fan of it. I hate having to learn all the tactics, tricks, placement, etc. while most DD's don't. Some do, but most from my experience don't regardless of DF or parties made on the server. I have to pull and dodge aggros. I have get the adds and make sure that if some idiot DD pulls hate on a mob that nobody is attacking I have to work even harder to keep them alive.

This is all while trying to manage positioning and cd's so the healer has an easier time. That being said. I'm not a douche. I feel like there is some god complex, but I also feel its like what I stated. I get a bit annoyed that I have to have better gear than everyone else by far otherwise I'm seen as "gimped". While it's true in every game, in 14 since the gear progression is so abysmal, you're basically forced to follow the progression of AF1 > DL > Relic and AF2. Most DD's on the other hand just get a good weapon and enough HP to survive attacks.

I understand that I'm the tank so I have responsibilities, but I feel that in many instances I'm one of the only ones adequately prepared. You can see it in primal fights very easily. People taking AOE dmg constantly. For a tank to be a tank, a lot has to be done gear wise and preparation for everything else. That might just be a personal thing, but it's the same feeling that if parties wipe, most blame goes to the tank.

You're not the only one who thinks that, but that's also what attracted me to the job more than the passiveness of other jobs.

Fair enough. I enjoy tanking for the most part, but it's when I have to do all of those things and then people don't do their part or take it for granted. I don't expect the red carpet treatment, but I expect people to know their jobs and to gear appropriately. If people do what they're supposed to do without me hand holding them, then all that grinding and studying doesn't bother me.

I do my best to help people out in most cases but just as you say tank's are D bags there are far more horrible dps that push us to it.

If you want to understand why tanks are the way they are I'd suggest rolling one as you were thinking and playing one yourself. I can bet your story changes by the time you hit level 40.

So many DPS think that this is WoW and they can spam aoe's, target wrong mobs, stand in dumb things and die constantly, etc and we as tanks are expected to just deal with it and hold hate. Things don't work that way here. Hell I've gone off on my own FC members for that crap before. It makes a stressful job even more stressful

So i usually try to keep a good attitude, etc while tanking. I tend not to rage, but the one thing that really pushes my buttons out of everything. DPS pulling aggro cuz theyre hitting 3 instead of 1, etc etc. the one thing that really REALLY REALLY makes me mad is when a healer is not paying attention as your hp is slowly declining, and you're watching him sit there doing god knows what (probably typing into a chat channel) and then you pull out your ultimate weapon when you know ur not getting heals....stunning mobs casting your 200 hp cures in hopes that he will realize you need a freaking heal. and then you die ;( and on trash mobs it is a very slow death. "Oh i thought i had benediction up...." ima smack that fool.

With the whole dps thing, I don't really care if they pull aggro, that's why i keep my provoke up so i can quickly get it back. DPs taking the initiative and pulling mobs is one thing i do not like, but i don't rage about it, ill take hate, but if he does it again ill let him die before taking hate. People make mistakes, as long as they own up to it and apologize, w/e im cool with it. But if something happens and i die or the group wipes and the only thing that person has to say is "i don't care about <insert instance name here> anymore because i ran it soooo many times so i dont want to pay attention" well...that just says to me that i shouldn't care about you either, so he can suck it.

SO far there have been two times ive been a "douchebag" and both times at healers lol

I will commit to not being a douche bag to you as long as you don't:

    1. Spam Medica to heal 2 people then complain about adds on you
    2. "Help" me pull
    3. ST dps on an unmarked mob when there's a 1 mark up
    4. Kite aggro away from me while still dpsing it
    5. Knock back that aggro when I finally catch up to it
    6. Just knock backs in general
    7. Conspire to form a circle of bodies around me and the mob creating a game of Wheel of Fortune where the prize is a cleave to the face and a dizzy tank as I turn the mob trying to find the clear spot where I don't murder a party member
    8. Say "tank why no hold aggro" when a boss shoots you with a random target effect that you promptly fall into a coma in as your life bar drains away into a retarded oblivion of red circle

No but seriously though, if you want to break your FC tank's brain pan do this:

Spread out in a triangle formation, have one dps single target one mob, another dps target another mob, then healer spam medica. He'll be like wtf there and then he'll probably run to go try and pull off the healer. Regardless of who he runs to, as soon as he picks a direction slap sprint and FUCKING TAKE OFF! Then spam /p OMG GET IT OFF OF ME GET IT OFF OF ME!

I'm a tank, love it. But I'm also honest upfront if I haven't run something before and "if" I have mastered the mechanics and clearly explain what I expect from the run and it isn't followed and leads to a wipe... Then I can get a little perturbed.

And yes, roll a tank. It is FUN. I'm leveling a WHM now and I can tell you that it is MUCH more fun to tank.

Ultimately, I'd like to know what the expected mentaility is with repect to tanks? I am sincere in asking since I want to be a better player. If folks expect the tank to give no resistance and walk cheerfully to the cross for others' mistakes, then I'd say they need to govern their expectations.

If you're asking this question, you're already the right player my friend.
