Updating with unstable Internet

So i have a Friend that just bought the game and Downloaded it with a CD version of the game. Upon doing this you have to do about a 3GB update. Their Download speed is really low do to location of where they live, and at times has unstable connection. When trying to overnight Download the game every time their internet stumbled the DL restarted verses resuming where it had stopped, meaning they only got about 100 MB done that night. They have become extremely frustrated with this bc anytime they have a hiccup it restarts, and they don't exactly want to tether their phone for a 3GB download. With this game being so globally released i cant imagine this is the first time it happened and am wondering if someone has a solution to this problem that doesn't involve tethering a phone.

The patching process downloads a part of the patch, installs it, downloads the next part, installs it, rinse and repeat. If the connection is lost, you start over the part you were downloading, but you won't download the parts you already installed. The progress bar does reset, but it will still download less data.

Talking to a programmer friend i know i got the same response form him saying that from a programmer standpoint it wouldnt make sense to start a update without doing a file check to see WHERE it needs ot start, but when i got back to my friend on this they are saying that the number has not changed that it is still reading total data needed 3.5 w/e even after being left to its own devise all night. So not sure if they have missed something or if it has to do with maybe their IP adress changing every time it DC's?

He is not good programmer, is he - standard procedure for restarting data transfer - size of file -1kB~1MB = starting point of restart, no file check needed (this method is used for FTP transfers).
Also, wouldn't be easier to copy game data from friend?

I had this issue when originally downloading the game during beta. I live in New Mexico, and the fastest internet I can get here is 128Kb. Every time there was the smallest hickup my download would have to start over from scratch. And some of the hickups were caused by the launcher logging me out before the download was done, and not a result of my internet. A download that should have taken me 2 days ended up taking 5. It was a very frustrating experience to say the least.

Best thing to do is copy your installation onto a flash drive and then just copy it to your friend's computer. It's just the game files as no user setting are stored along with them. You might need to run the launcher as admin on the first try depending on how user account control is set up on the computer if it's Vista or newer.
