I must be missing something with this combat chocobo

I tried to level my rank 3 mentally challenged giant chicken today and got maybe 1/6th of a level after 45 mins of grinding. I made him a tank when I was leveling BLM because I figured that would be helpful. Little did I know he would be incapable of EVER pulling aggro. One Fire III and it takes him a good 10 seconds to pull a mob off of me. What makes it even funnier is he has less HP and gets hit harder than my BLM wearing thin rags.

I figure he probably hits like a wet noodle because he is such a low rank. I honestly don't know how I'm supposed to level him in tandem though because I can't take him in dungeons, he doesn't get quest/fate exp, and I can't even let him soak up 100+ mob exp chains from Dark Devices because he uses a party slot. I make every effort I can to level him up while questing or riding the FATE train but there has to be a better way.








Oh look! A FATE popped 300 yalms away (lol wtf is a yalm?)! Unfortunately my feathered friend is busy chasing down some de-aggroed mob that is immune to everything as it runs back to its patrol area. I better put him on follow before he re-aggroes it and puts me back in combat, withdraw him and wait 5 seconds until he leaves the party, mount him, run to the FATE, dismount, lure him out with some more chocobo catnip, put him back in defender stance (in free mode he becomes overwhelmed by all the ability choices and just auto attacks....... He has one ability, one.), and make sure he doesn't get one shotted after sprinting towards an exploding bomb. IT'S THAT SIMPLE!!!

Is there any way to respec him? I pulled him out while killing some stuff with my 26 glad and realized he has less than half my HP and generates less enmity than me only using fast blade.

I heard someone say use them with low level classes as it takes less xp to level yourself. I tried and it is false but I really wish it was not so much work to rank them up. I love using mine and have come to the conclusion he will get rank for In A couple years if I'm lucky.

As of right now there is no way to re-spec your chocobo. That doesn't mean that there never will be down the road though. My advice to you would be to put any and all remaining points into Attacker or Healer stance. Mine is about half way to Rank 8 currently and I've split my points into Healer and Attacker and it's working out nicely so far, I just won't be able to get Choco-Medica at Rank 10 which isn't a big deal to me.

He can currently solo his own level 50 mobs in a timely fashion, but more than one on him and he dies very quickly.
