Many people including myself were not given a choice of where to create a character. All servers were locked at the time and a legacy was the only server i could pick. Hell, i didn't even know what a legacy server was until over 1 month into the game.

Played FFXI for 5 1/2 years and i still recall when SE released the game to its EU/NA customers and we were thrown in with the JP players that had been playing for close to 2 YEARS and had amassed gil and were geared to the teeth when all the EU/NA players joined. All the EU/NA players never said anything and we got on with it and it all worked out fine.

Now all of a sudden this 'economy stability' excuse is thrown our way? Considering the above, the economy reasoning holds no solid reasoning whatsoever there's more to this which of course we are not being told and just kept in the dark.
