an idea i had, was that they could make crafting have a 2nd optional mini game per craft, that is more skill based, and the difficulty of the skill based game is multiplied for higher level items. Like imagine if some npc taught you to visualize weaving as tetris. then you could choose to visualize, and the stuff 10 levels ahead would be like super fast tetris. Not saying they should jack tetris, but if they have mini games as an entertaining option, that could work.

The problem with skill based mini games in crafting, is that not everyone has skills, some one may want to be an armorer, but suck at whatever skill based game it has. The system right now is a combination of knowledge and random elements.

I think the issue they keep running into, in this and even in battle, is some people want the systems to be entertaining and skill based, and some people just want to get through with it, building the system for one alienates the other. They need to start adopting a dual progression system, where the player can choose style of play. Just like many ffs have the option for wait or active battle, or how ffxii had the option to micromanage if you wanted to.

...and further on information - I truly believe there would be less people upset with the current crafting setup if they understood more about how the system works.

It was a little while before people discovered the directional link to elements in XI's crafting system. There are probably unknown systems of a similar nature already in place for XIV.

SE are kinda damned either way though...they cannot release too much information about crafting for fear of spoil, and they cannot afford to have too many people in the dark about what actually affects crafting.

Whilst the forums are a great step toward understanding their player base, others are right in the suggestion that empowering the community with a voice can enable a distortion of direction based on the opinions of only those who bother to speak up. I think in-game polling would be nice. Maybe even a mandatory quick feedback poll on the last update each time one installs a new update so that all who play are further encouraged to influence the game, and that influence is closer to what the core community (the people who are actually playing the game and not stubbornly sneering from the sidelines after rage quitting or something) truly desire from this new realm.

I understand what you're saying Seif and Vana'diel had a story that pulled me in too.

I'm gonna have to pull a bit of a defeatist card on this one though and say:

Unfortunately we live in a world of ever-decreasing attention spans, where linear thought is dominant.

I may be seeing where you're getting at, and I may not be at the same time. I think we can make the crafting more fun and/or faster without catering to low attention spans. Personally, it's not that the game is slow, I like that, and I like reaching max level and knowing it meant something.

What my problem with the crafting system, as it is right now, is that you can't reasonably expect it to be on par with your War/Magic disciplines without spending 10x more time and effort on your crafting disciplines. I hate logging on, saying "I should do my craft leves then grind some crafts to get them on par with my R20s/30s", only to find I spend my whole time crafting during the hours I'm playing, STILL not caught up to my War/Magic disciplines.

Personally, I found it easier when the game first released to keep War/Magic and Hand/Land jobs closer in level (and thus, more relevant for your War/Magic to use those crafting disciplines), because it took a lot longer back then to level War/Magic disciplines to R20 and beyond. I think it's a lot more noticeable how slow crafting is when you zoom through War/Magic at the rate you currently can.

I guess balance is more the issue for me. I think you should be able to enjoy the classes you like playing more (usually combat ones for most people) whilst keeping crafts up if you so desire by investing a *reasonable* amount of time doing so.

I think crafting is just slow enough. It's not to slow but it's not to fast either. It's like this thread slow.... but not slow enough.

Slow and too complex. I like the mini game essence but the current system is serious overkill

I have 8 crafts at 50. All I did was watch T.V. and spam standard for easy mode synths. Enjoy leveling those crafts in 1.19 and beyond everyone!

My problem with crafting is not so much the speed. its the repetitive and random nature of the minigame. now i will be the first to admit to having some exciting and finger crossing final actions while synthing and that's a good thing and in my mmo experience rather a rare occurrence. but really being a crafter in this game is a lot like being a law enforcement officer. Hours upon hours of boredom and tedious tasks capped with moments of shear terror and excitement.

My highest crafting skill is armoring its in the low 30's along with numerous others in the 20's. I just cant bring my self to do it any more, its not a lack of time or materials. I just cant bring my self to do it any more. hell i cant even force my self to do locals any more. The same three have been sitting in my journal for a month now and most likely there going to be there for a while longer.

Basic grind craft is too slow, some of those you're going to just press standard through the whole craft since rapid may be too much durability loss if it fails. Hasty Hand isn't really worth leveling so you use it on low level synths, which helps a lot, I'd probably kill myself if i had to do the crafting mini game for a rank 20 or below craft on something like "cotton yarn". I don't know if its too slow for guild leves and such it always depends on the craft, in general though crafting is one of the only things they did right, and its a serious gill sink for me.
