    Couple Newby Questions

I am very new to the game, a friend helped walk me through a few basic things but I am a bit confused on some.

As a caster (conjurer) When I try to attack something do I always have to press enter after I have selected my skill or is there a way to make it always automatticaly cast after I have selected the skill.

ie. press 2 (fire), press enter to use fire.....(seems a bit silly to have to confirm my choice after I have choosen it lol)

I would like to become a healer, can I be a DD and a Healer or do I have to stick with just Healer?

    Is there a friends list?

What is the big green button for (AOE) do we have to decide if a skill should go single target or aoe? or is there another use for it?

The second enter is to select your target, which is necessary when you are fighting multiple mobs.

You can be every job in the game, but not necessarily at the same time.

    Yes, it's in your menu.

You decided because if you AoE in the vicinity of a lot of mobs, they will all aggro you once they are hit by your AoE.

You do have to always select a specific target for your spell after you select the spell. This comes in really handy when you're locked on to an enemy but you want to heal your allies as well without switching your target. So yes, you can do both. At the moment both mage classes can do damage and heal.

There is a friends list. Main Menu -> Social Lists -> Friends List. Just add people by their first and last names and you can see when they're online. It's also probably a good idea to find a linkshell.

The big green button just toggles AoE. You can toggle without clicking it using the command /aoe or by pressing the Z key whenever the button is visible.

Oh I just realised my character has Cure, does this mean I can use that skill as a single heal or an aoe (party) heal?

Yes that is true, Mage classes have area of effect shapes that are different. Conjurers have a circular area that your spell affects around your target. Thaumaturge cast spells in a wide fan shape in front of themselves. That applies to damage and healing spells. Equipping spells on non mage classes limits it to single target at the moment.

As of now, both Conjurer and Thaumaturge are effective healers. But they are just as capable of dealing damage. So there is no pure Healer per say at the moment. The development team is about to release a job system that will supposedly take your class and specialize it with your traditional FF names like white mage etc. Very little is known about it as of now.

Yes. The reason you have to click enter every time is to confirm whether you want the spell to AOE or not. Sometimes you're going to be fighting a single mob with other mobs around, so you're not going to want your damage spells to AOE. But you're going to want to cast AOE cures. So the system asks you to decide for each spell whether you want it to AOE or not.

When you cast, you typically select a spell, and then are given the option to toggle the green "AOE" button on/off. Click on the AOE button and it will glow bright green. That means the AOE is on. And, as Mightyg said, the shape of your AOE will be different depending on whether you're a Conjurer or Thaumaturge. (If you've got Cure, I assume you're a Conjurer, which means your AOE will spread out in a circle around your target.)

Another option is to click on Cure, and then when you have the AOE button up, click on a player's name from the stack of HP bars on the bottom-right of your screen. That will cast Cure directly on that person.

    Have fun!
