If they are really materia reactors (which is what people were suggesting as far back as alpha) then that means SE always planned to introduce the materia system.

They do give off an eerie green glow at night, they could well be Mako reactors.

North of Camp Blue Frog, good luck getting there. They added diremites and that patch that increased the mob population makes it one interesting trip You can see them in the distance from the camp, to get closer you gotta sneak around a pack of bloodthirsty mongrels

It does seem a bit of a stretch, but they do look a FFXIV spin on a Mako Reactor. Only time will tell I guess, just need SE to hurry up and get everything in place so they can open the world up. There are so many zones and area's blocked off with fences and invisible walls it's starting to get a bit depressing when you go exploring and know whatever you find will have no meaning ; ;
